"It's been a while darling," he hands me my coffee and takes a seat in front of me as I thank him.
"It sure has Benjamin. Ten years," I sip on my coffee and feel it as it soothingly goes down my esophagus.
"How is everything? Have you settled down yet or are you still not over me," he winks becoming more comfortable by the minute.
"Same old Xavier. I've had a few boyfriends here and there but nothing too serious. What about you? Has a girl been able to capture your heart and hold it in the palm of her hands?" I sip on my coffee once again trying to maintain a straight face.
"Me..ha..never," he smirks adding, " only one girl truly had my heart."
"Aww is this when you declare that you love me and never wanted any girl but me as you watched me from a distance; we then live happily ever after," I wink at him and he shakes his head.
"You haven't changed a bit Adelaide, so would you like to go out for dinner? You know to catch up," He asks straightforward trying to hide his nervousness.
"Are you asking me on a date?" I play shocked. "I would love to," he gives me a huge smile but then stops suddenly realizing," there's a but?"
"But I have a date with someone today. Hailee and Bailee are playing Cupid. I'm sorry," I state with guilt etched over my face. Why do I feel guilty?
"Oh, well I better get back to work. Nice seeing you," he takes his empty cup and throws it on the way out.
I watch as he walks away and dissolves amongst the crowds of people.
Sighing, I grab my coffee but notice something on it. His number was scribbled on the bottom. I save it into my phone then toss the cup away.
I decide to walk to work as it's only a few minutes away. Same old routine once I arrive at the skyscraper: Walk into the building, security, wait for the elevator, press on floor 30, and wait.
The elevator stops and the doors open. Greeted by Adam's worried look, we walk to my office. "Okay Adam, talk to me," I state once I take a seat on my chair.
"Well, they don't want to settle and will take it to trial."
"Okay what's bad about that? They fell into our trap. Wait, there's a but," I remember Xavier for an instance but push him aside for the moment. No time to think about personal problems during working hours.
"The judge." I hold up a finger. I grab my phone and make a call. Adam stands there anxiously waiting for a reply so I motion him to sit down or he'll fall unconscious. It's his first case so I understand the nervousness and anxiety.
"Hey John, how are you? Remember when you said you owe me a favor. Well I need that favor if you don't mind."
A few minutes after explaining to John and Adam turning paler by the minute the deal is done.
