After Primrose Everdeen's name was pulled from the bowl at the district twelve reaping and Katniss volunteered, Gale knew he needed to protect Katniss. When Peeta was reaped as the male tribute, Gale immediately volunteered in his place.

Katniss was furious for what he did. He should have stayed and helped her family, not volunteer to protect her. All during training she stayed away from him. Gale tried to speak to her, but she walked away.

On the day they performed there skills to the game makers, Katniss scored a 11, catching the careers attention. While Gale, only scoring a 9 for his strength and hunting skills.

Still mad, Katniss joined the careers as they made a deal; Don't kill Gale. Even though she was mad, she knew she couldn't live without her best friend. Haymitch tried to warn Katniss of the dangers of being apart of the career pack, she ignored him.

The day of the games finally arrived. Before they left, Katniss finally spoke to Gale.

"I'm sorry, Gale. For not speaking to you." She whispered to him, a tear rolled down her face.

"It's okay Katnip, I understood you where mad. I would be to." He wiped the tears of her face with his thumb.

"Whatever happens in that arena, I hope you'll always know I love you." With that Gale walked away.

The games started. Katniss ran toward the cornucopia, killing no one. Gale made it away with a bag that contained a bottle of water and some rope. Katniss met the others after the bloodbath was over.

Day five of the games came fast. Only Gale, Foxface, Katniss, Cato and Clove where left. In the afternoon Clove had been killed by Gale, who managed to kill her by knife. Foxface had also died, but no one knew how. That left Gale, Katniss and Cato.

Cato had enough and knew it was time to get rid of Katniss once and for all. He grabbed his knife out as they where both hunting for food. Before Katniss noticed it was coming towards her, Gale ran in front of her and the knife went into his chest.

Katniss screamed. She took out an arrow and shot it at Cato before he could reach for another one of his wepons. Cato died instantly as it hit his heart.

She reached down to gale who lay on the dirty ground. He was suffering in pain, the wound was not enough to kill him fast, but slowly.

"Katniss please, shoot me." He breathes out.

"I can't Gale!" She was crying.

"Please." He pleaded. He was slowly leaving the earth. She knew she had to do it.

With one last good bye, she shot him through the heart.
