Chapter 7

Rick POV

Today's events weighed heavily on my heart. I could have lost my best friend today and the woman who was like another daughter to me. Daryl was right; I shoulda let 'em kill the bitch right from the beginning. We all knew she was trouble. Right from the start. But bein' here gave us a taste of the old world. Our old moral code. And as nice as the idea of having a practical society once more is, it could never be again. People like Claudia who were scum in the old world, are subhuman now. People like Daryl changed for the better, but they're few and far between. Next Claudia that comes 'round is gonna find either a bolt or bullet in their head.

Maggie POV

I hugged my baby sister close, once I was able to wrench her away from Daryl's grasp. I can't believe I almost lost her for a second time. We all knew she was nuts, but I think truly only Daryl knew what Claudia really was capable of. I think Beth was afraid of her, but I think even she couldn't fathom that Claudia would go to such lengths to separate Daryl and Beth.

Daryl POV

I wish I let the bitch turn, so I coulda killed her again! But what really pissed me off the most was it was all a game. She jus' didn't like that I was happy. That I found a woman I loved and not jus' stuck with some fuckin' dirty skank like her 'cause she was all I thought I deserved.

She knew Beth was beautiful, inside and out, so she had ta tear her down. When Beth thought that Claudia was beautiful and that she was gonna lose me to her, I woulda laughed in her face if it weren't for how sad she looked. Truth is, Claudia is a washed up skank. How someone as beautiful as Beth could look at Claudia and think for a second that she looks better than her is beyond me. Beth's got her beat in every category by more than a country mile. Beauty, brains, body and she's just about the sweetest, most caring person I've ever met.

We need to move on from this, though. Important thing is she's gone, Beth and the baby are healthy and we are finally gonna have our happy family at last.
