* A Month Later*
I never realized how difficult happiness could be. Selene was amazing and so was Alastair; they treated me like I was there own but at the same time they knew that I hadn't been one of their own because Enjolras and I would always hold hands but that's all his mother would allow, whenever we would be alone in the Library or the garden his mother or father would interfere and pull one of us away, it was usually me, I had always thought they would rebuke me for such scandalous actions but they never bothered me with it just kept me busy with some sort of task. During the afternoons Enjolras and I would go to our favorite pub. Grantaire, Marius and others from the University would join us and we would talk of a better life.
"Why don't you just bloody do it then?" I suggested hotly while they fantasizing over it. Courfeyrac stared at me in shock, he was the newest to the group so he hadn't heard me say it before.
"How?" he asked. The other men groaned a little bit except Enjolras he snickered at me.
"Don't get her started Courfeyrac, you'll regret it but I'll give you the general gist of it," he paused for a small moment in order to gather my ideas and put them into his words. "Franny believes that we should start a Revolution, she believes that people - ordinary people will rise up and stand up against the King himself and that together people can govern a country," Enjolras explained in a half mocking tone. Courfeyrac tore away his gaze from Enjolras and back to me.
"You believe that?" he asked.
With a smirk on my face I replied: "You bet I do, if America can do it, why not France?" I challenged.
"America committed treason against Britain," Courfeyrac argued.
"Did they? Or were they smart and desired to be free from the King?"
"No one would rise up with you," Courfeyrac threatened.
"How do you know? How can you possibly know what the people of Paris - of France are thinking?" I demanded. "You want to know what I think?" I paused then continued, "I think that the King should be Dethroned! Down with the King!" I declared loudly. Enjolras now looked alarmed.
"Franny - shh! You want to get hanged?" he asked.
"Enjolras, I'm standing for something, trying to spark a light in the hearts of these secretly angry men. You there sir" I called and an elderly man who looked familiar turned my way. "Do think it treason for a people to rise up against their King in order to better their lives?" I asked.
"Yes... And now that I've caught you talking treason, I'm going to arrest you for suspicious tyranny." The old man stood up straight and his face reflected off of the light and I recognized his cold hard stare as Inspector Javert. He started towards me along with a few other men. Enjolras stood in my view.
"Please Inspector, she didn't mean anything by it," he lied. Enjolras knew better than anyone that I meant what I said. Pushing him aside, I stood directly in front of Javert with no fear in my heart.
"He's lying, I did mean what I said, so if you must take me away -" I lifted my hands. "then you're going to have to catch me first," with that I swung my fist and collided it with Javert's jaw, the boys rooted for me as I raced out of the pub and tried to lose the them through the winding streets of Paris. I placed myself in a dark alley, I pressed my body against the hard rock brick wall, limiting my breathing so that I sounded silent. I had waited until the moon rose then I had decided that it had to have been safe, I inched out of my hiding place, looked around me then headed back to Enjolras's house. Halfway there a pounding force caused my body to topple to the ground.
