I was sweeping the library when I jumped at the sound of the phone ringing. I eyed it, unsure if I should answer. Since at the second ring it hadn't been answered, I picked up the telephone and said, "Earl Phantomhive's residence."
"Look at you, acting like a good little servant," the voice on the other end taunted.
"I told you to never call here, Martin. I'm supposed to call you so that we're sure it's safe. How did you even get the number?" I asked, slightly irritated. Why couldn't he ever listen to me?
"You seem to have forgotten that I have other people to do my bidding besides you," Martin reminded me.
"Do not speak of me as a puppet easily manipulated," I spat. He degraded me so much whenever he could.
He sighed, "Oh, never mind that. We don't have much time, apparently. Funtom Company has entered the Curry Contest being held at the festival in a few days. The curry will be judged by the Queen herself and the winner will be given a royal warrant for it." Royal warrants were like a stamp you could put on your product if given to you and the amount sold will skyrocket. The Queen has to approve it and the company's owner must be providing some type of service to her. It was a huge deal in England, especially since the Queen influenced everything.
I couldn't say I was surprised. Ciel was the Queen's Guard Dog, so he was providing a service, and I had heard that he had been thinking about expanding into the savory food industry. While I did think curry was a stretch, it was the perfect opportunity. "Okay. What do you want me to do about it?" I shrugged.
"Since my company is also entering, though I'm sure you've forgotten after they many times I told you," I didn't remember a single time he told me. Goes to show how much I actually care, "I can't lose. Especially to a company that only makes toys and sweets. It seems our schedule has been pushed forward," Martin said.
"I do not understand," I shook my head. What was he getting at?
"You must kill them very soon," he finally told me. I stood there, frozen in shock. Kill them already? I hadn't even found anything useful yet! That was the whole reason I became a spy!
"I haven't even found out any information useful to you yet!" I exclaimed, finding it hard to keep my voice down.
"You've been there for a long time. If you haven't found anything yet, then you never will. I can't let them win, Widow,-" he started.
I interrupted, "It's Willow, not Widow. I hate when you do that to me. It isn't that hard to say Willow."
Martin paused for a second and then ignored what I said, "Just kill them already. I'm tired of waiting. Get back here when you're done and be quick about it. Don't waste time and when you see the opportunity, go for it."
I argued, "You said it yourself, Martin. Funtom is a children's toys and sweets company. They don't even have a branch for savory foods. Also, unless you're using curry powder, curry is a very difficult dish to master. I think we can be sure Funtom will lose. Please, let's be rational."
"Ciel Phantomhive has the Queen in the palm of his hand. He can make miracles happen with that butler of his. I can't afford to lose. Kill them before the festival. Do you understand?"
I sighed and nodded, "Yes, I understand." He didn't say anything else to me before hanging up. I placed the phone down on the receiver and said to myself, "Well, this isn't going to be easy."
