The drunken Soc lunged for me again, but was all the sudden jerked back and thrown to the ground by someone who had grabbed him by the collar of his sweater.

Startled, I looked up to see the infamous Dallas Winston offering a hand to help me up. Ugh, anyone but him, I thought, but another part of my brain was surprised he was being so gentlemanly and offering to help me up.

I didn't think much of it though as I took his hand and he pulled me to my feet and we both turned to face the Soc, who had stumbled to his feet himself.

"Coming to the rescue of your girlfriend, huh, you greasy piece of shit?" the Soc jeered.

"You'd better watch it you sick bastard, or you won't get a girlfriend ever again once I'm through with you," Dally threatened in his typical gruff voice.

I was scared of him with that tone of voice, and he was the one defending me.  I really hoped they wouldn't start fighting in the middle of the drive-in theater...

"Bring it, asshole.  Or do you not want your girlfriend to see the shit beat out of you?" the Soc threatened right back.  Why did he think I was Dally's girlfriend?

Dally shook his head as if he knew the Soc would regret this and grinned menacingly, like a vicious wild cat that could easily tear you to shreds.  I didn't say anything and just watched in terror, frozen to the spot.  I knew I should try and do something to stop them, but I wasn't to eager to, considering the look on Dally's face right now and the fact that that damn Soc deserved it after some of the filthy things he'd said to me.

"Oh no, you're lucky your girlfriend isn't here.  Though I doubt any bitch would be dumb enough to get within fifty feet of you of their own free will," Dally said, planting his feet firmly on the ground, raising his hands, balled into fists, at his sides, ready to fight.

The Soc growled low in his throat and then swung a fist at Dally, aiming too high and falling short so the only thing it did was create an air current that ruffled Dally's hair, seeing as how the guy was inebriated.  Dally grinned devilishly and with one solid blow the Soc was on the ground, clutching his hands over his face. I wasn't sure where exactly Dally had hit him, but when fist connected with face, you could hear it, and it sounded painful.

I watched as Dally swiftly leaped on top of the guy, landing on his chest hard enough that the Soc exhaled a loud oomf, and then started pummeling him in the face, the chest, everywhere he could reach.  I could hear Dally's grunts of exertion and the Socs exclamations of pain.

"Had enough?" Dally growled, and the Soc muttered something before Dally got off of him and spouted some very unsavory words at the Soc as he scrambled to his feet and booted it out of there.

I was surprised when Dally turned around to face me and there wasn't a single bruise or scratch on his face, but then again not really.  He had a reputation for being an excellent fighter and having a huge record, which made him an unpleasant character in my book, but I had never really doubted his rep.  Now I believed it even more.

He smirked and said sarcastically, "I'm getting sick of saving your sorry ass all the time, so why don't you take care of yourself from now on?"

"I didn't ask you to save me," I pointed out haughtily and then added, "And I'm not  your girlfriend," remembering what the Soc had kept calling me.

"Trust me," Dally scoffed, "I wouldn't want you to be my girlfriend.  And I didn't want to save you either."

"Then why did you?" I asked defiantly, though I was mostly just curious.

"Cause I don't really want to have to kill your crazy cousin in a fight if something happened to you," he replied like it was obvious before turning and walking off.

Good, now I could finish watching the movie.  I had come here to do that, so that's what I was going to do, interruption or not.

I had just settled back down in my seat when Dally's retreating form up ahead spun around and he told me, "Hey, Two-Bit wanted me to tell you that he's at Buck's if I see you 'round," and then continued on his way without waiting for my reply.

I wasn't surprised, Two-Bit seemed to think he needed beer like he needed air, and he had probably convinced his date to come along with him to Buck's.  Buck had parties all night long Thursday through Sunday, and if you were looking for someone on the weekends, you could probably find them there, or at least find someone who knew where they were there.

I'd never been to Buck's before, and maybe I'd stop by after the movies were over just to see what those wild parties were like.
