Note to Readers: I'm sorry it's taken me so long to update, but I was stuck for a while on what should happen next. Anyways, apologies for the delay and I hope you like this chapter!
On Friday after school Two-Bit drove Pony, Johnny, and me over to the DX, which is where we usually went after school, cause Soda and Steve were almost always working, and apparently Dally had showed up there too today.
"So what are all you bums doing this weekend besides stinking up our house?" Soda joked conversationally.
"I gotta date tonight," Two-Bit announced, cocking an eyebrow and striking a 'cool' pose, with one hand clutching the edge of his jacket as he looked dramatically into the distance. In all honesty he looked like a dork, which Steve didn't hesitate to say.
"We were going to go to the Dingo, there's a new band or something playing and I want to go see it," Pony said, meaning him and Johnny.
"Did you ask Darry if you could go?" Soda reprimanded his little brother.
"Yes," Ponyboy answered in an of-course tone and then added, "He said I have to be home by midnight."
Soda nodded his approval and said, "Well Steve and I have a double date with some girls we met the other day. What about you, Dally?"
Dally took a drag on his cigarette and shrugged, blowing smoke in my face as he answered nonchalantly, "I don't know. Probably bum around town, maybe see if there's a party at Buck's or somethin'."
I wrinkled up my nose at the smell and waved my hand in front of my face. I was used to the smell of cigarette smoke, my grandpa had smoked, and Two-Bit smoked all the time along with the rest of the gang, but they never deliberately blew smoke in my face like Dally had just done.
"You're not going to stay home again tonight, are you Mickey?" Two-Bit asked me.
"I'll probably go to the movies," I said, just to make it seem like I was going to do something. With guy's eyes following me everywhere I went now, I'd be perfectly content staying home and reading a book or watching T.V. all night long.
"You still got my blade?" my cousin asked, sounding like my brother for just a split second with the concern seeping into his voice, but I just nodded.
"All right," he said easily, and pretty soon we headed home cause Two-Bit needed to get ready for his date.
I was still sitting on the couch working on some homework I was behind on from when I first got here when Two-Bit left, but Aunt Kat was still out job searching and Kayla had a sleepover at a friend's house tonight, so I was home alone.
Around seven though when I finished my homework, I realized I had finished all my books and the library wasn't open, and there was no food in the house. Aunt Kat usually went grocery shopping on Friday mornings, but since she was out looking for a job she hadn't had time. Looks like I'd be going to the movies like I had not planned to do after all, since I could easily make a meal out of theater popcorn and a bottle of pop.
Being a Friday night, there were quite a few people at the drive-in, though most of them were dates in cars, leaving the folding chairs up front empty, but that was fine by me. I had finished my popcorn and was halfway through the second movie when one of the metal folding chairs squeaked as someone sat down behind me.
I thought nothing of it until a hot breath drawled in my ear, "What's a pretty girl like you doin' by her lonesome?"
I jumped, he had scared me, and turned to see who it was. The minute I saw the guy's face I knew it was a bad idea, because a drunk Soc was grinning stupidly back at me, his hot breath smelling of alcohol.
I shuddered and turned around, pretending I hadn't noticed him, but he proceeded to move and come sit next to me, draping an arm around my shoulders. Now what was I supposed to do?! I was terrified, remembering what had happened last time I'd had an encounter with the Socs, and the snide comments a few of them gave me at school. My breath was coming in short gasps and I had sweat prickling on my back, but I was stuck here under the weight of a drunken Soc's arm. He was practically on top of me because he couldn't hold himself up.
"Come on little lady, how's about we head back to my car?" he asked suggestively.
"No thank you. Please get off me," I said, trying to sound polite, though I don't know why I thought that would help. I could clearly hear the waver in my own tone, which means there was no way he missed it, even as drunk as he was.
He grinned devilishly, showing off two rows of perfectly straight, white teeth and giving me a lovely smell of his sour breath. I gagged and tried to duck out from under his arm, but he quickly grabbed me, wrapping his other arm around me and holding me very uncomfortably tight next to him.
I was smothered by the smell of cologne on his sweater, and the more I squirmed the tighter his grip got. He was whispering dirty things in my ear and trying to kiss me, but I kept fighting to get free, yelling for help and hoping someone would come soon.
I was still struggling to get free from this pervert, but I knew trying to wiggle free wouldn't do much with how constricting his hold was. I could hardly breathe and very disturbing scenarios were running through my head, so I moved the only thing I could effectively, jabbing my elbow sharply backwards, hitting him in the gut hard enough that he loosened his hold.
I broke free and fell off my chair, landing on the hard ground, gasping for breath as I looked to see how quickly the Soc would be after me again.
He growled and lunged at me, and I scrambled to my feet as quick as I could in hopes he wouldn't grab me again. I doubted it would work though...
