"Take a sip of my secret potion; I'll make you fall in love. For a spell that can't be broken, one drop should be enough."-Little Mix: Black Magic
Chapter Twenty-One: Baby If You Love Me, Then All of This Will Go Away
"Get your copy of Advanced Potions out and turn to page two-hundred and ninety-three. We'll be attempting Amortentia." Professor Slughorn started, writing the page number on the blackboard, before turning back to the class. "Just for a refresher, since all of you but three students did your essay on it, what is Amortentia?" he asked. Hands flew up around the room, and he picked Emmaline, who was sat in the far right corner.
"Amortentia is a powerful infatuation potion. Most people mistake it for a love potion, but all it does is make the drinker obsessed with you. It has a different smell for everyone, as it smells like what the person loves. For example, someone could smell daisies, lilacs, and mint, while someone else smells beer, fire-whisky, and petrichor." Emmaline stated. Slughorn smiled and awarded her ten points to Ravenclaw.
"So get started, and, as always, the team with the best brew gets to keep a vial of the potion each, and fifteen points to your respected houses." The Professor stated, before scurrying behind his desk to begin grading our essays. I knew he couldn't have possibly graded them all.
"So, I'll get the herbs, and you get the rest?" I smiled sweetly at Lily, who mumbled something about me 'owing her one' before she started off to the pantry. After we had both retrieved our ingredients, I had started writing notes to James, who was sat behind me; however Lily would skin me alive if she knew we were flirting while school work was at stake. 'We're so going to win this, by the way. We won't be going easy on you, Deer.' I wrote, discreetly slipping it to him.
"So first, we're going to put the standard ingredient in, and you get started crushing the leaves in the mortar." Lily said, and I read the note James had sent back, and choked back a laugh. 'Wouldn't have it any other way, sweetheart.' "Are you guys smack-talking each other using weird pet names again?" Lily asked, and I was caught like a deer in the headlights. "Forget it. Just crush the leaves." I saluted her, saying 'sir, yes, sir!', and begun the process.

We had finished our potion first, which worried Lily. She didn't want to be the first, or last, group to finish because that could mean we miscalculated. After going over the calculations multiple times and assuring her we did not miss a step, Lily finally sat, relieved, on the stool behind our work desk. I sat beside her, turned around to annoy Sirius and James while they scrambled to finish while still creating the best work in the class.
"Wrong." I stated, causing Sirius to look up and glare.
"What do you mean 'Wrong'?" he asked, annoyed. I smirked, and replied.
"Well, for one, you're supposed to crush the bay leaves, not cut them. Also, you only need five, and not eight." He huffed before reading the ingredient list again, mumbling a "you're right.", causing me to reply "I know." Lily smacked me on the arm for this, but I just snickered.
Soon, Professor Slughorn started inspecting everyone's potions, leaving James and Sirius', and Lily and mine's for last.
"Mr. Black and Mr. Potter, your potion is excellent, but I'm going to have to say that Miss Evans and Miss Primrose's was a tiny bit better." Slughorn said, taking the lid off of our cauldron, and pouring a bit into two vials and handing them to Lily and I. "If you don't mind me asking, you four, what do you smell?"
