I wasn't quite sure how to feel after that conversation with Jasper. I know deep down, really deep down, a part of me wanted to forgive him to pretend like he hadn't made the last three years of my life a living hell, but right now in this moment I didn't want to forgive him I wanted to continue to be mad at him. He was staring, staring at Nate and I. Five days ago he had told me not to trust Nate. I've been wondering if it was because he had some sort of personal vendetta against him. Maybe he was angry, jealous maybe? I keep telling myself to ignore Jasper's whispered words that all that matters is that I trust who I want to trust not who Jasper wants me to trust. I trust Nate, well I wouldn't go as far as to say I fully trust him but I don't have any reason to doubt him.

"Well aren't you just the sweetest," Nate said sarcastically once I caught back up with him.

"As sweet as compound cake, hun" I replied jokingly with a wink.

He flashed me a boyish grin his familiar and welcoming scent was intoxicating. He took my hand in his playing with my fingers for a moment. The action was sudden and unexpected but not unwelcomed. His hands were soft, everyone in the compound had rough hands with callouses on their fingers. But his hand were soft. I swear out the corner of my eye I saw Jasper roll his eyes. I decided to ignore it. Whatever problems Jasper had with Nate should not affect me.

Colton and Lacie came to an abrupt stop seizing all conversation. Colton broke into a sprint running through the vast amount of trees without pausing for a mere second. We all followed suit until we come to a stream of running water. No one made a move. I stepped forward and took a deep breath. I lowered my hand to the water slowly bracing myself for the worst. The water didn't burn me like last time. It was cold to touch and refreshing. With a delighted shriek I guzzled down as much water as I could splashing it on my face and hair before filling up my flask.

Ten minutes later everyone had gotten their fill of water and was ready to go. When we got back to our camp the sun had just began to set.

"How many people do you think are here, Nate?'' I asked softly while looking up at the slowly darkening sky.

"All of us, well everyone from the compound who wrote the test."

"No I mean how many live people you think are here, ''Nate looked confused so I continued. "You saw what happened to James what if it's happening to other people I mean we haven't really seen many people around here.''

"Skye, don't worry about it,'' he said while bushing my hair back. "I'm sure the reason we haven't seen people is because they're hiding at their own little camps, and if they are dead it must be because of natural causes like hunger or the cold.'''

"Things are just really weird out here I mean I can all of a sudden heal, the water is extremely toxic, we have weird chips in our bodies. It's all just really creepy.''

I heaved a deep sigh biting my lip hard before continuing.

"I don't want to die, Nate not now, not here.''

"You're not going to die, Skye not here I promise, "he said softly while pulling me in for a hug.

"How can you be so sure?''

"I just am,'' he said pulling away from the hug with a smile.

We sat for what I assume was an hour talking about nonsense and looking at the stars until Nate got up to do something. I stood to my feet and went to go find Lacie. On the way I passed a very bitter looking Jasper. I thought about stopping to ask what was wrong but dismissed the thought and decided to continue walking.

"What exactly is your plan Skye, huh?''

I turned around and stepped closer to Jasper.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"I told you not to trust him, Skye I don't understand why you're still close up and personal with him."

"Japer you have to be kidding me! You are not my brother, you are not my boyfriend and you certainly are not my friend. So you don't get to tell who I can and cannot be 'up close and personal with' and you cannot tell me who I can or cannot trust,'' my blood was boiling I wanted to get as far away from jasper as possible in that moment.

"Damn it Skye don't you get it. I'm trying to protect you.''

"Well I don't need you to protect me so do everyone a favor and get lost."

"Of course you don't need me to protect you, you already have 14 for that. Oh I'm sorry his name is Nate right?''

The way he said his name was as if Nate was lying about his identity all together.

"What is it Jasper why is it that you all of a sudden care about me now?" I bore into his eyes my blood boiling.

"Skye for once in your life could you not make this about the past okay I'm trying to protect you," He screamed his eyes were alive with a mixture of emotions.

"Protect me from what!"

"From Nate," he said hesitantly as if he was unsure of himself."I don't know Skye okay, I really don't know but you of all people should be one to not trust people. Remember what happened to your precious parents last time you did?"

"Your sick Jasper you have no right to talk about my parents as if you could protect your own."

The minute the words had come out of my mouth I instantly regretted it. Jasper's body tensed up, his eyes turned dark as he stepped closer me almost as if he was going to hurt me. He stared into my eyes for a moment before his entire demeanour softened and he walked away.

"Jasper wait," I called out but he just continued to walk.

With a sigh I sunk to the ground with my face buried in my hand.

"Crying is a sign of weakness. Crying is a sign of weakness. Crying is a sign of weakness."

I repeat the mantra to myself softly until I could trust myself not to burst into tears.

"Are you okay?" I look up to see Nate standing over his expression ridden with concern.

"I'm fine," I spoke softly and gave him a small smile.

"Jasper?"

I nodded my head slowly not really trusting myself to speak. Nate sat down next me and pulled me into a comforting hug.

We sat in silence for a few moments Nate's arm still around me holding me tight.

"Skye!'' Colton called out frantically. "Nate! Get over here now, please."

Nate and I hesitantly pulled away from each other.

"We should probably go check what's wrong," I said my voice steady

Nate simply nodded but his held an emotion I could read.

We walked up to where Colton, Jasper and Lacie were sanding. All of them looked as if they had seen a Ghost.

I turned around and saw three people I had never seen before. All of them were holding weapons. The girl in the middle was holding a silver bow with twelve razor sharp arrows the girl next to her had a belt full of steel throwing knives and the guy on the left had a dagger with sharp teeth on both sides.

"What's going on? What do you guys want?" I asked while taking two steps back cautiously.

The girl in the middle let out a laugh. "In case you haven't noticed were stuck in a living nightmare, you see we have a theory when we found all of these weapons we figured Maybe this is some sort of game. Unfortunately for you we can't all win."

Before we could even process what was happening she loaded here bow and shot Jasper straight in the stomach.

Hello guysies sorry I know it's been months since I've posted please forgive me I feel so bad but on the bright side I have broken through writers block and I am literally writing a new chapter right now❤️❤️❤️❤
