"Hey honey, how was your day?" my mom asked sweetly as she entered the house. Most people say I look just like her. I disagree though, her hair was blonde like mine but darker and longer.

She had piercing bright blue eyes, compared to my dull boring brown eyes. I honestly don't know where I got them from. She had a perfect hourglass figure, I couldn't compare us on that one because, well, I'm only twelve.

"Mom, can I please go outside today?" I pleaded.

"Skye! How many times do I have to tell you that if you go outside the officials will catch you?" She said sternly.

I heaved a sigh. I knew I couldn't step foot outside my house without being killed.

One of the many ridiculous laws was that a couple could only have one child, if they were to have another, that child would be killed. It was never my parents intention to have another child, they were only expecting my brother. No one had a clue that she was carrying twins until she was in labour.

Somehow my mom had persuaded the doctor to keep it a secret and ever since then I've been in hiding. My brother, on the other hand, gets to live life like a normal child in the Ruby section. He gets to go to school and events, he gets to see nature, while I'm stuck in the cold, windowless basement

I know the consequences if I'm found, but I can't help thinking: What's the point of staying alive but not being able to live my life freely?

"I'm sorry - sweetheart - but I can't lose you. I would never be able to live with myself," She whispered pulling me into a hug.

"Yeah. I know mom it's okay."

I buried my head in my hand hoping that Skye had gotten my letter. When I lifted my head I saw the bus nearing the gates of the Bureau. I sighed as the bus came to a stop. As soon as my feet hit the ground a guard quickly twisted my arms behind my back and placed ice cold metal handcuffs on my hands.

The guards gun probed my back, nudging me forward towards the big glass doors of the Bureau. The official seal of the sector stood proudly on the doors.

A few minuets later we were standing outside the office of David Lard, president of the sector. He was in his late thirties, his dirty blonde hair was gelled back and he always wore a evil smirk on his face.

Most of the sector thought he was the kindest guy ever, that he was going to lead us to success. But I know the truth and now I'm probably going to pay with my life.

The polished wooden door opened revealing a very angry looking David. The guard nudged me forward with his gun again and I stumbled into the office.

"Subject 06 would you like to explain why you paid a visit to the compound yesterday?" He asked blatantly.

"I'm sorry, I had to see my sister. I couldn't let her think I was dead. She had a hard enough time dealing with my parents death."

"And whose fault is that?" He said harshly

"Yours. You killed them for something they couldn't control." I snapped.

The guard slammed the nose of the gun into my rib, I doubled over in pain.

"What happened to your parents was not my fault they should of killed one of you."

"So, 6, would you like to share what you talked to your sister about?" He asked even though he saw the video.

"I just explained why you guys had to fake kill me" I said nervously.

"What was on the note, 6?" He pressed.

"It was just a drawing she gave me when she was younger," I lied.

"Bullshit, if you don't tell me know you will pay."

"Like I said, it was just drawing"

"Guards get him out my sight."

I groaned and rubbed my eyes as I woke up I suddenly remembered that it was test day. I threw the bed sheets off me and jumped out of bed. I ran towards the compound bathroom, my journey was cut short when I crashed into some one. I looked up at the person, Jasper.

Crap.

I expected him to make fun of me or beat me up like last time but he just walked away.

I continued - walking this time - towards the bathroom. I quickly took a shower and got dressed.

I walked into the training hall where all the 16 year olds were gathered. After what seemed like hours, we finally made our way to the dreaded testing hall. I searched the large group of people for my brother.

The seating was arranged by section. On the right side of the hall was the Ruby section, there were about 50 people. All of them had their hair neat and their clothes perfect. Not a single thing out of place. On the left side of the room were the people from Clover section. There were about 30 of them, each had matted hair and dirty, tattered clothes. Most of them had no shoes either. Then, in the middle of the hall, was us. The people from the compound. There were a lot of us, about 100, we were not too scruffy but still far from perfect.

My train of thoughts was cut short when a test paper was slammed down onto my table I looked at the front page, it read '2098 Test Paper,' under that was the sector seal, it was dark blue with a white bird in the middle. The bird's wings were spread and a thin, gold circle rimmed the seal. I took a deep breath and flipped over the page.

I had to pass this test.

Not for my parents.

Not for Colton.

Not for 14.

For me.
