I woke up the next day filled with a feeling of commitment, but dread as well , the Thing was no longer a rumour ,it was real and i had to stop it... Ok maybe not stop it but at least find out what crazy thing was going on.

I sat up and crawled to my computer at the end of my bed, the bold titled word document still open, i quickly typed in the following;

Victims:

Elizabeth Kinsley 2001

Veronica Daelin 2013

The Thing is described as a black beast with yellow eyes it's said to live in the woods next to South Cove High...

I stopped then my fingers lingering on the keyboard, what else? What else? But my mind stayed blank, i racked my brain but it as if someone got my memory and wiped it clean.

I felt frustration build up in me, great work Hazel your trying to catch a kidnapping creature and you can't even remember anything about the case.

So i spent the rest of the day reading, watching YouTube videos and doing homework, while desperately wanting school to start, i actually thought i was going mad, me wanting to go to school, what was wrong with me?

But in truth i wanted to look at the year books from the past years, i wanted to find Elizabeth Kinsley, you can find out a lot about a person by their yearbook... or at least that's what i think. If i knew more about her i could see the connections between her and Veronica, kidnappers always have a reason, right? There was always a reason why they chose a particular person, i doubt they just walk down the street and take someone away. What's the word? Motive. A kidnapper always has a motive.

So that's why as soon as i finished dinner i literally scrambled into my bed in record timing and willed myself to sleep, which turned out to be... unsuccessful.

Later my mum had come up and very gently felt my forehead as if i had a fever.

"What are you doing mum?" i asked, slightly annoyed she had disturbed me in my efforts to sleep.

"Nothing honey, just making sure you weren't sick" she chuckled.

"Sick? Mum why would i be sick?"

"Well... because you seem to actually want to go to school" She laughed and then walked out my bedroom door.

If only she knew.

Monday came and i really can't remember a Monday i had ever felt so happy, I must be going crazy. I dressed in record time, ate in record time, which gave me a nasty case of hiccups, and left record time to the surprise of my very shocked mother.

"Looks likes you got up on the right side of the bed this morning"

I power walked straight to school hoping to be able to pop into the library before Alicia and Bee showed up, well hopefully i would, since i had just beaten my world record earliest arriving at school time, and as i entered into the courtyard i saw no sign if my two friends, good, i mean i love them both but what i had to do they couldn't know about.

I was greeted by the librarian, Miss Jensine, whose brown hair was up in it's usual bun, and then took off to the back of the library where the yearbooks were stored. As i got closer a feeling of anticipation entered me, would Elizabeth's picture shed light on the Thing? Or would it just lead me down a dead end trail? Whatever the outcome it was time to find out.

I skimmed my hand over the packed year books some dusty dating from the day the school opened to the newer looking ones; we were 2013 which means i was looking for the 2001 yearbook.

There it was!

I quickly grasped its wide frame and tugged it out, making a few other yearbooks topple out with it, quickly i picked them back up and stuffed them back into the shelf before heading over to an empty desk. The thing with our yearbooks was that they were indeed very wide, this was because everything about the graduating year was in here, year seven camp and school photos, year 8 presentation evening, teachers comment for each year and so on... I flicked to the back where i knew the students thoughts were, Elizabeth Kingsley, i thought as i traced my finger along the pages lined with pictures and pictures of students, finally i found her name and looked up at her picture, she looked different than the picture in the paper which had showed a family photo, in her year book her curly blond hair had been straightened and her dark green eyes caked with eyeliner and mascara, she was also wearing fake eyelashes i noted as an afterthought, i pulled out my phone and took a photo of her photo.

She was very obviously a W.A.T, just like Veronica, her photo practically screamed it not to mention her end of year comment, to teachers it would have seemed respectful; "I am so sad to leave this school, I’ll miss the teachers and all my peers, I’d like to thank everyone who...”, sounded respectful enough but with what i learnt this was all written with lots of sarcasm.

I went to put the yearbook back when a thought occurred to me, Alicia had mentioned that two other girls had gone missing in the same year after Elizabeth, i mentally noted that i should look into that later when i had the chance.

As i turned to leave i was surprised to see Calvin right behind me.

"Hey Calvin didn't see you there..."

"Not many people do" he replied flatly.

I hesitated, not knowing whether i should reply or leave, i hadn't talked to Calvin much, mostly just said hi to him in the corridors, hoping it would make him feel better, turns out i didn't have to as he continued to speak.

"Why were you looking at the year books?"

" i...uh..." quickly i tried to think of an excuse "was looking at them because a friend of my mum's went here and i wanted to go look at her in the yearbooks...." was that convincing enough?

"Oh ok" he said and started to leave

"Calvin?" i said.

" What?" he said turning around.

"I found your bird painting really good" which wasn't a lie, since it was actually really good just that everyone had laughed at it because he was... well he was Calvin, but i had thought that he deserved to know that it was probably the best in the class.

"Thank you" he said his eyes lighting up as he turned and left the library.

I felt good, at least i knew I’d done something beneficial today.
