"You have to be quiet," Laura whispered, Caleb's hand held tightly in hers. He nodded. "Okay. Come on." She opened a door and pulled him into the nursery. She seemed nervous as she looked up at her husband. "That's your son."
His bottom lip trembled ever so slightly as he reached down and ran a finger down his son's jawline. "Oh, Laura," he whispered. His voice shook over the two words, like he wasn't sure.
"Wh--what?" she asked.
"We make beautiful babies, Laura," Caleb said softly. Laura's teeth sunk into her bottom lip as she reached up and wiped a stray tear from her husband's face. "I love you. I love you so, so much," he whispered, his watery blue eyes searching hers.
"I love you, Caleb." One corner of his lip curled into a smile. "And I know. We do make beautiful babies. Speaking of which..." She pulled him out of the nursery, shutting the door behind them. Heading down the hall, she opened the door to Kaylee's room. The child was curled on the bed, her kitten's on the pillow next to her head. "She's been wanting to see her daddy ever since we left."
"C--can I wake her?" Caleb asked. Laura nodded and let go of his hand. He crossed the room and knelt down next to the bed. He ran his hand down his daughter's side, waiting.
Kaylee's eyes opened as she rolled over to see what had woken her up. "Daddy?" she questioned.
"Yes," he whispered.
"Daddy!" She sat up on her knees and threw her arms around her father's neck. He hugged her back, a large grin covering his face.
