8:00 AM

"I dropped Kaylee off at school," Caleb said quietly, setting a fresh cup of coffee in front of Laura and another in front of Lucas.

"Thanks," she said quietly.

"So..."

"I don't know Lucas," she said. "If I knew, I would tell you. I've never seen them before. I can just tell you that one was shot, and the other was cut in half. And I can also tell you that their killer displayed them on my bed. Other than that, I don't know what you want from me," she said. Her voice was rough and raw, both from screaming and crying. Her words still shook slightly everytime that a new shiver coursed through her body.

"You have no idea how the killer got in here?" Lucas asked.

If looks could kill, Caleb would've dropped like a fly from the glare Laura was giving him. "I guess you should ask genius over here, as he's the one that left the house with the door unlocked," she hissed.

"Caleb."

"I said I was sorry!" Caleb exclaimed. "I was in a hurry to get the crime scene."

"If you hadn't gone by yourself, I would've been able to lock the damn door," Laura stated. To say that she was angry was an understatement.

"Look, we're getting forensics to dust your house for prints. Hopefully, the killer messed up along the way. If not..." Lucas let the sentence hang between them.

Laura rolled her eyes. "Are we done here? Or do you want to cuff me and take me to the station for some formal questioning?" she asked.

"You're free to go," Lucas said.

"I'm going on a walk. My phone will be turned off, so don't even try to track me," she said as she stood up. "Are we clear?" she asked, her fangs glinting in the kitchen light.

"Clear," Lucas said. She shook her head and walked out of the kitchen. Roughly ten seconds later, the front door slammed closed. "You did a real stupid thing," Lucas said.

"It's not my fault. It's hers. I mean..." Lucas drummed his fingers on the edge of the table, waiting for the exact moment that Caleb started speaking with careful intelligence. "She's pregnant. It's the hormones," he said.

"Wait. Pregnant?" Lucas asked. Caleb nodded. "She's pregnant and we just let her walk out into the city? Out into the city that's hiding at least one killer that wants her dead?" Lucas asked.

Caleb's head tilted to the side. "Dead?"

Lucas reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. "This was on the bed, her pillow." Caleb took it from him, his hands shaking as he read through it.

"Edward Mosssplitter -- griffin -- and Jason Cloudwolf -- werewolf. They were my friends, just like Linda Horseroot. Laura, you're not my friend, but it doesn't change the fact that you're next. See you soon ;)"
