Piper's Second Year:

Slytherin Quidditch team tryouts were today, and I was running down to the Quidditch pitch with my broomstick: the fabulous Nimbus 2000 in hand. My mum bought this for me with the money from her new job at the Leaky Cauldron (a wizard pub). Everything at home was almost back on track, I hope.

When I arrived at the pitch I was greeted by a sea of green students milling around the pitch. Amongst them I spotted Lucas, the team captain and my older brother in his fifth year, and my friends chatting non-stop. I ran up to them and greeted them eagerly.

"Quidditch tryouts! I'm so excited!" I exclaimed.

"We're not trying out." Crabbe said.

"Then why're you here?" I questioned, confused.

"Well, I'm here because of Lucas." Pansy blushed as she glanced at my brother. I fake gagged at the fact that my best friend was in love with my brother.

"Who wouldn't like him? He is famous, Piper. You should be glad you've got a brother like him." Blaise said.

I huffed. I hate being in the shadow of Lucas. Lucas Thorne, the best person ever, his little sister is absolutely nothing compared to him. I frowned, upset that I'm always under his shadow.

Draco Malfoy seemed to have noticed my sad face, making him frown too. Why is he sad that I'm sad? It makes no sense, usually we annoy the hell out of each other for the fun of it, that's how our friendship works.

"Are you trying out, Thorne?" Draco asked me, trying to lighten my mood. I nodded.

"What about you?"

"Yeah, I'm hoping to be Seeker. I really want to win the Quidditch House Cup this year, I can't stand being lower than Gryffindor." He snarled. I smiled, Draco was right. We have to win the cup this year.

"Alright! Shut up, everyone!" Lucas shouted. Everyone was dead silent. "Okay, then. As you all know, we're here for Quidditch tryouts, and I'm looking for the best Chasers, Beaters, Keepers and Seekers out there, and then I'll eliminate slowly until we find our dream team.

"I want a line of Chasers, Beaters, Keepers and Seekers, and if you're not trying out, you lot can sit in the stands." Lucas ordered. In two minutes, there were four lines and the ones not participating sat in the stands.

"Great, now, I think I'll have Seekers up first." Lucas beckoned the Seekers forward. They ran excitedly to the centre of the pitch. Draco smirked at me, and I returned the smirk, my way of saying good luck.

A Quidditch team consisted of seven players. Three of which were Chasers, who use a ball called a Quaffle to score goals with. Each goal is worth 10 points.

There are two Beaters, who use a bat to hit a hard ball called a Bludger away from there team and towards the opposing teams players.

Then you have the Keeper, the player who blocks the three goal hoops from the other team to stop them scoring.

Lastly, there is the Seeker, who has to find a tiny, golden winged ball called the Golden Snitch, which is worth an amazing 150 points. If the Seeker catches this ball the game immediately ends, and the team with the most points wins.

The game could go on for hours, days even, until the Snitch has been caught, therefore Seekers have to be fast on their broomsticks and have excellent eyesight.

Lucas put the Seekers into groups and released the Golden Snitch. The first person in each group to catch the snitch went through to the next round. This elimination game went on until there were two people left: a sixth year called Derek Mills and the one and only, Draco Malfoy.
