"Momma, Can I?"
"No, sweety, put it back."
"But.." With a disappointed sigh, the small boy turned, placing the candy bar back onto the counter. "Belle, come on, we are about to leave!" My mom's familiar voice caught my attention. I gazed over at her, and she raised an eyebrow. I placed the magazine I was reading back on the stack it came from, before turning and walking over to her. "Belle.." I gazed down at my small brother as he whispered to me. "Convince mom to get me candy," He whispered.
I laughed once, "No chance." I said pulling him against my side. I love my little brother, always had. We weren't like a normal family. "Belle," I gazed up at my mother, "Where's Sage?"
Sage was my twin. I suppose You are all confused, my name is Belle Clayford. Why Belle? My parents are big french name finatics. My mother always tells me it's because it means Beautiful in French. I'm 18 and I'm a senior, and of course so is my brother. We look alike kind of. I had brown hair and brown eyes while he had brown hair and blue eyes.
I was short, not to short, but a few inches shorter than my normal age. My brother, was the right size. We also had the same personality, we were both stubborn. He was star quarter back at our school, built, and my mother was his world. Why? Because we hadn't known our real father since we were 2. Our step father's name was Derrick. I hated him. And I mean, hate. He knew I did too. Not only did he verbally abuse my mother, he hit her once.
Sage wasn't home, thank god. I was locked in my room, which Derrick constantly did. So, I began sneaking out my window. But that's not the point. Sage still doesn't know About that day, but he is protective of my mother, nonetheless. Not to mention my mom can't leave Derrick, we've tried talking to her, but she is terrified to do it. Derrick was Mason's real father. Mason was 9. He was my world. I loved Mason.
Mason was my younger brother and he had blue eyes like my mom, and brown hair like Derrick. I had my dad's eyes and my dad's hair. Sage had our mom's eyes and our dad's hair.
I lived in the good old town of Lincoln, Alabama. It was small, but is sufficed. "Belle." I quickly looked up from the spot on the floor I had been staring at, My mom stared at me, "Come on." She said walking towards the door of the store. I sighed before following after her.
It took us about 30 minutes to drive to the hospital where Derrick was at. Two days ago Derrick had been working in the wood shop at our school, since he's our woodshop teacher. He had an accident with the saw.
He cut two of his finger's off and had to stay in the hospital. We pulled to a stop in the parking lot, and my mother stepped out of the car. Sage shoved his own door open and Mason followed after him. "Belle, you coming?" Sage asked leaning into the car.
"No."
"Belle, darling.." My mother said with a sigh. "I'm not going, You have fun." I said before looking away from her. She sighed and turned before grabbing Mason's hand and making her way across the parking lot, followed by Sage.
I laid my head against the cold glass window, watching as an ambulance pulled up to the hopsital. Two men jumped out, running to the back and pulling it open before sliding a man out on stretcher. The man seemed to be siezing and foaming from the mouth, though I was sure the foam was both spit and blood since it was tinted red. One of the men went to wipe the foam from the man's mouth, and without warning the man lifted his head, and latched onto the man's hand. The driver screamed and yanked his hand away before reaching down and putting restraints on him.
I watched in awe as they brought him into the hospital, and soon I caught myself falling asleep.
It must have been an hour or two before the sound of someone screaming woke me up, My head shot up off of the window as I gazed up at the hospital. It was dark outside, and Another scream echoed in the air followed by several gun shots and a lot more screaming. "Mom.." I mumbled, suddenly, the doors of the hospital swung open, and people began to run out. It started out being a few, and suddenly, a crowd of screaming people came swarming out. "Mom!" I yelled, as people began to fill their cars. People rushed out of the hospital, swarming the parking lot as scared people drove right through the crowd.
