Chapter seven

'She told you she found her soul mate but they can't be together?'  Maya asked exasperated. 'What a load! And what did she say about Bruce?' Mandy whisper yelled. 'Shhh, you'll wake Ghalia up again.' Rez tsked at them and then she explained about what Alex had said about the prince Carlos. 'She didn't say he was her soul mate, but to me it sounded serious enough. He sounded like the one.'

'Oh p-lease, no one can melt the glaziers of her heart. And if she left him then he can't be her soul mate.' Maya said dramatically, and water whooshed past her shoulders to show her exasperation.  Rez had had the same thought but then she, she had never met her soul mate and her parents say that she was already betrothed to someone, how they would know what Alex was really thinking, they were ripped from her life nearly three years ago. The girls shucked their cloaks and went to bed. Rez dreamed of their mission and what would happen to them and Maya tossed and turned ending up in a tangled mess of blankets. Maya slept soundly, but she woke up early and made breakfast, an anchovy sandwich for her, and a bacon omelet for Ghalia, for Alex she made a fruit salad and a strawberry and salt water mix for Maya. She was worried what Ghalia would remember about the night before, she didn't want to clear her memory since explain would be harder when they got to that mountain anyway.

'Are you serious? He's gone rogue? No, we'll handle it. Yeah. Okay yes. Bye.' Alex was on the phone when Mandy walked into the living room. 'Who was that, who went rogue, does that mean my first real fight?' Mandy babbled. She trained the hardest of the rest of the girls (Alex excluded).

'It was Jack, he said he did some background research of Ghalia's dad, he went rogue about two years after she was born and he abused her mother. Mandy, for some stupid reason my gut tells me that, there is something that wanted me here….' Alex's frown became deeper when she called one of her friends at the school she was trained at first. Shelby checked the name she was given and told Alex that the man who was her father(Max) was in fact the biological father of Maxie, Ghalia's brother. But it was impossible; they had adopted her because of him, as far as she knew Natalya was fine the doctor had said that. How did Max get Maxie?

Ghalia woke up to find Maya in her line of sight first. (Try to picture waking up in the morning, after your first slumber party. And one of the girls that you've made friends with is play with a ball of water!) 'Maya!' Alex yelled, and the ball of water Maya had been playing with fell to the floor when gravity took over. Only it didn't land on the floor, it landed on Maya's head! The siren spat, shook her head and made such a scene that you might have thought she was a werewolf in the rain. Rez and Mandy was laughing like there was no tomorrow, they had seen this happen a dozen of times before. Alex was too shocked to laugh because Ghalia was looking at them like you would imagine someone looking at a centaur or giant. In fear. 'What are you?' The girl jumped up and held her arms up as if to ward them off. Then seemed to deliberate for a moment and made a cross with them. Mandy rolled her eyes, 'oh p-lease. If you would just stop with the Hollywood crap! I've had enough of that since I was born. You know the nurse tried to drown me.' Alex knew it was nerves that made Mandy babble like that so she took charge. 'Ghalia, we're not going to hurt you, we're going to protect you. I promise if you allow us to explain, you can leave when we're done.' Her voice was soothing; mind control was taboo against the law. Mandy was already to far panicked to worry but Alex didn't miss Maya's round eyes on her back or how Rez closed her eyes and slapped her fore head. Well some rules are just overkill. Ghalia nodded and sat down on the bed.

'So you guys are fairies?' Ghalia asked. 'Only Alex, I'm a daybreak witch and Maya is a siren, Rez is only half human.' Mandy explained her nervousness long forgotten. Ghalia had calmed down only after she heard that they were guardians and that they protected humans from the midnight creatures, she didn't ask what kind of creatures (and believe me, not even the bravest human would want to know.). She found out that they could do some pretty wicket stuff. Like Maya who could sing people into a trance and make any guy fall in love with her in seconds. Alex could manipulate all the elements (you would think there were just four, but then you'd be wrong). Rez could project, and Mandy? Well she wasn't sure what Mandy did but the girl kind of scared her with her dark eyes.
