Cori's POV
"I will watch her." I said trying to not let her see how much this was hurting me.
"Thank you. I have like an hour left until I meet him for coffee, so I am all yours." She said gesturing her hands.
"Well what do you two usually do?"
"Well she is so young, so all we do is look, walk, and laugh. It's quite boring for people, but as long as I am with my baby then I am happy and having fun." She said with a ghost of a smile.
"Your a good mother Kase." I said looking her in the eyes.
"Thanks Cori, but you have not been here long enough to be able to make that kind of judgement." She said looking down.
"All I have to see to label you as a good mother is the love for your child, nothing else matters. That is the only thing that she will remember. Can I ask you something?"
"Shoot..."
"Why didn't you want to tell me about her?" I asked.
"I didn't want you to be in her life then you leave her with a broken heart like you did me. I wanted to protect her from you, from the heart break. I don't really trust you now, but a part of me knows that you will not hurt her."
"I will never hurt you either. Give me another chance, please, I still and always will love you."
"Why do you tell me this? Why do you even love me? I am nothing special." She said looking away.
"I love you because you are beautiful. And you are special to me, no matter what anyone has to say, even you. You'll always be the girl that I love because you were my first love, and the mother of my child. Like I said before... I only left you that letter because I needed to know that you would move on. I needed that confirmation before I could of left you. I needed to know that someone else would love you, and you them."
"Why?"
"What?"
"Why? Why did you just leave? Why didn't you just ask me or anyone else if you could stay with them? Why did you write a letter that tore my heart apart? Why were you so clueless to how much I loved you? There are so many questions that can go with that one simple word. There are a lot of unanswered questions."
"I left because my dad got a better job, I left the letter because I didn't think that our relationship would work being long distance. I knew that you loved me, I just didn't know how much, and they are my parents! I would go anywhere if they are there. I am pretty sure that you would too."
"This doesn't change anything I am still going on my date, and we are still not anything. I will think about us being friends, but I don't think that I can ever see us being more than friends. I gotta go, I'll see you later." Then she turned to Tori, "Bye my darling, mommy loves you. Daddy is going to take you to his house to hang out and get to know how to be a daddy." She then tried to whisper in her ear, "Don't go too hard on him, ok?" I acted as though I didn't hear her. She looked up and smiled, "Bye." She said then turned away.
My heart broke just a little more, because I knew that she was finally moving on and being happy. Just not with me. I still love her, and I always will, "We are going to be a real family," I said to Tori after I saw that Kasey wasn't in hearing range.
