In the middle of the night, the ballroom was alive.

High ranking officials. Media. Politicians. Billionaires.

Champagne in their hands. Lies on their tongues.

Before the program began, before the speeches and the campaign offers,

Ambassador Nerrie Bryan pulled Commissioner Clinton into a private room off the main hall.

No cameras. No staff. Only them.

A black briefcase rested on the table between them.

"Commissioner," Bryan said. His tone was measured. No smile. "This is your disbursement. For services rendered."

He slid the case forward.

"I trust we have a mutual understanding regarding operational continuity. There will be no deviations."

Clinton met his gaze. Back straight. Voice clipped and official.

"Acknowledged, Ambassador. We will maintain continuity of operations as directed. Full compliance."

Click. The case closed.

Bryan nodded once.

"See that you do."

The deal was sealed.

Outside, Chief Officer Narson stood by the east wall. Earpiece in. Eyes scanning.

Protocol 7 was active.

Then he saw her.

Wait. Cerin.

He moved through donors, reporters, and cameras without thinking.

Untill

thud.

"Watch it "

"You're in my way.

"Please forgive me," he said quietly.

"Watch your step next time."

He gave a curt nod.

Cerin moved through the crowd like smoke. Black dress. Stone face. She had not come to celebrate. She had come to witness.

His hands caught her arms. He held on too long.

They collided.

When she looked up, her breath caught.

"You," Cerin said. Her voice was stone against stone. "Again. Are the ancestors laughing at me?"

Narson released her and stepped back.

"I am not following you. I am on duty."

"Hah." Her laugh was short and bitter. "Like last time. Outside your uncle's House.

His jaw tightened.

He said. Yes,"I saw you then now I see you again"

She stepped forward. Chin lifted.

"Should I thank you for seeing me?"

Annoyance and disappointment sharpened her voice.

"I went to your uncle's house to dig. To seek the truth. And when I came out, there you were. waiting."

"I didn't expect that day. I regret it."

"Cerin " Narson tried to explain.

"You warned me," she cut him off, sharp. "You told me to turn back."
