Pick of Jake>>>>
|Ranger|I didn't sleep at all last night. I ended up watching live feed from the cameras all night and found nothing. The only action I got on tape was of a dog taking a piss on the McCletchly's rose bushes.
I had to drag myself into the bathroom to take a shower then dragged myself downstairs like a zombie. The shower didn't help wake me up like I hoped and I knew I looked like shit.
When I made it downstairs, I found Abigail fast asleep on the couch. She was curled up all the way against the couch with her face buried into the cushion. It must be nice being able to sleep.
My cell phone rang in my pocket and I pulled it out to answer it after seeing that it was Briggs.
"Yeah?" I answered.
"Got anything?"
"Nothing, what about you?"
"He's pushing out more drugs then he was last year. We have to get this guy, Evans."
"I know and we will."
"How's the girl doing?" He asked and I looked down at her still sleeping form.
"She's doing fine." I said and walked into the hallway towards the kitchen."She's a bitch, but I'm managing."
"She's a rough one, but she's the best candidate for this type of job. She knows men like Cortez because she was brought up like them. The best way to take down a man like Cortez is by using someone who thinks like him." Briggs explained.
"What makes you think she won't jump over to his side?" I asked. It's possible, I bet she'd take the opportunity the first chance she gets.
"She may have grown up on the same side of town as Cortez, but she won't turn on us." I wasn't too convinced. I had a friend at a nearby station and a guy they had on the inside of a gang turned on him. The bastard shot him six times. He bled out before the ambulance even got there and I had to tell his wife and four kids that he wasn't coming home anymore. That's what fuelled me to get every bastard I was sent after. That's why I hated his kind. Abigail's kind.
"She's nothing but trash with a nice ass, Briggs. She's f.ucking scum that kills people. She's what's wrong with this world. I can barely stand being in the same room as her. Hell, I get sick even thinking about her. The sooner the job is done, the better off I'll be." I said to Briggs. It was a little harsh and I was exaggerating about the getting sick when I think about her part. She was bad though. She was no good.
"She can help, Ranger."
"Yeah, well she hasn't helped yet." I said with frustration. I was exhausted and a little hungry, it was not a good combination. "This better not come back to bite us in the ass, Briggs."
"I know, just play it calm with her. You don't want to make her decide to run with Cortez."
"I will."
"I'll check up with you later, keep your eyes open and take note of every little thing you see." With that, Briggs ended the call and I stuffed my phone back into the pocket of my jeans.
Keeping my eyes open wouldn't be hard since I wasn't sleeping. The bad thing was that everything was quiet here. I opened the refrigerator and pulled a glass from the cupboard to pour myself some orange juice.
I turned around to set the glass on the island counter when my eyes met Abigail's from across the kitchen. She stood in front of the doorway seemingly wide awake now. She was even dressed in jogging pants and a tanktop that easily showed the baby bump from the pregnancy belly she had put on. Her long, dark hair was pulled into a high ponytail and she had running shoes on.
