Night had fallen when I finally made my way down the stairs dressed in a casual navy blue dress that reached just above my knees. It was a modest maternity dress that I found in the clothes they had for me and I thought what the hell, why not use it?

Ranger looked up from the couch he had been sitting on for most of the day with his laptop still glued to him. He eyed me from head to toe then narrowed his eyes when they locked with mine.

"Dressing up for your lover boy, I see?" He bitterly pointed out my more 'dressy' choice in attire. At a moment like this, I would normally roll my eyes or snap a witty remark back at him. However, I didn't want to start an argument. We had been doing so well and I didn't want to give him the fight I knew he wanted.

"This is the last time I'm going to ask you. Do you want to go with me, Ranger?" I asked.

"No, I'll just leave you and Jack alone so you can have dinner together and f.uck afterwards." He spat out harshly and turned his attention back to his laptop.

"I'd like it if you went." I managed to ignore his harsh, stabbing words. This was not like me. None of this was like me. Why did I care if I upset or angered Ranger? I normally loved pissing people off, but I didn't like the thought of angering Ranger. I didn't like seeing him like this. Oh, I loved seeing him jealous. I just didn't like seeing this hard, hateful side of him.

"Well, I'm not f.ucking going and you shouldn't either. We've got work to do and this job is already running cold as it is." He fumed and continued to pay attention to whatever he was doing on his laptop.

    "Ranger--"

"What?!" He yelled sharply causing me to jump slightly. His head swiveled to face me so he could glare at me. Damn, he was pissed.

"I guess I'll see you later then." I swallowed down the lump I felt in my throat and turned on my heel to leave the living room. He didn't utter a single word as I entered the hallway then left through the front door to step out into the chilly night. I should have brought a damn jacket.

I crossed my arms over the stupid pregnancy belly that was defined due to the tight fitted dress as my heels clicked along the walkway. My head turned back slightly to cast a quick glance back at the house hoping to see him running out of the door or at least peeking out one of the windows. I was met only by the quiet, lonely view of our perfect suburban house.

With a light sigh, I continued on my short journey over to Jake's house where the whole house was lit up on the inside. I stepped up onto his porch and pressed the doorbell with my index finger hearing the bell resound throughout the house.

Seconds later the door opened and I felt my mouth begin to drool at the sight in front of me. Jake was dressed in a white button up shirt with his sleeves rolled up just past his elbows. The shirt he wore was dangerously tight on his body showing off his defined biceps and chest. A delicious aroma seeped out of the house mixing with the expensive smelling cologne he was wearing.
