A Gem in the Ocean

Tourmaline sat at the bottom of the ocean. Her knees were hugged tightly into her chest. She quietly watched the schools of fish swim by in awe. Her one eye followed them, through the dark blue waters, until they became a tiny dot in the distance. Where her left eye should've been, there was a black and green gem. It glinted in the shy, underwater light.

It was so peaceful down there. The Earth really was beautiful. She wondered why Homeworld couldn't see that. She sighed thoughtfully and looked around. Everything on this plannet was just so beautiful and innocent. Why did Homeworld have to take away everything she loved?! If only she could-

'Calm down, calm down, Tourmaline...' That's just what they wanted her to do. It made her so mad that they were forcing her to do this. And if she didn't, they would hurt her. She was only doing this for her. Who knew what Homeworld was going to do to her? What if they were torturing her right now? Tourmaline closed her eyes and forced the tears to go away. 'Just think about the happy things...' If she succeeded, they could run off together, and forget all about Homeworld. They would find somewhere nice to stay on Earth. Everything would be perfect...

She stood up, and hardened her gaze. A determined look passed across her face. She stared out at the ocean one more time, letting all its beauty wash over her. This is what she would fight for. And of course...her. She would go down fighting until the very end.

 'Watch out, Homeworld.' she thought.
