Chapter 6: Can't See

It was two weeks and my liver had healed a little bit. The lead Royal Physician thought that my liver was more damaged than he had thought. I was taking more medications to heal my liver. The drugs were intense for me.

Brent and Lana would spend most of their days in my room talking to me. They were thinking about baby names. They were expecting twins but, they didn't know the genders yet. They would have to come up with four different names.

Brent wanted to name the boys Martin and James. Lana wanted to name the girls Lily or Daisy. I didn't mind the names at all. They thought about the genders of the babies. Brent thought that they were both boys.

Lana thought that they were a boy and a girl. She was using mother's intuition. I was getting the sense that Lana was right. I was expecting a niece and nephew. They would be able to get confirmation next month.

Ivan would spend most his his days in my room as well. He would work next to my bed. He had a desk brought into the room so that he could work and watch over me. Sometimes, he would sleep in my room.

I woke this morning to see that my was blurry. {I can't see clearly.} I thought that maybe I wasn't fully awake yet. I closed my eyes for a while. After a few minutes, I opened my eyes again to see that my vision was still blurry.

I was starting to panic inside. I couldn't see clearly. {What happen to my sight!} It was like looking through a fog. I could see shapes but, not clearly. I saw the door open but, I couldn't make out who the person was at the door.

"Beverly?" I heard the person say to me. I knew the voice. "Ivan," I said his name shakily. I saw him urgently walking over to me. "Is something wrong?" he asked me. I felt for his hand. When I found his hand, I held his hand tight.

"I can't see clearly," I said to him. I felt tears falling down my face. "Mikhail!" I heard him say. I heard Mikhail walk into the room. "Yes. Your Royal Highness," he said to him. "Go get the lead Royal Physician immediately," Ivan ordered him.

"Yes sir," Mikhail said and walked out of the room. Ivan helped me sit up and made me look at him. "Everything is going to be alright," I heard him say. I gave him a nod. I felt him wipe my tears away. I was getting worried.

Soon, the lead Royal Physician came into the room. "Something is wrong with her vision," Ivan said to him. I saw the lead Royal Physician shine a light in my eyes. I squint a bit from the brightness. I could still see lightness and darkness.

"I believe that the arsenic reached her eyes," I heard him say. "What do you need to do so that she could get better?" I heard Ivan say to him. "She will need to take more stronger drugs but, I am advising against it as she is very weak from the other combinations of drugs that she had been taking," the lead Royal Physician explained to him.

I squeezed Ivan's hand to calm him down. I knew that Ivan didn't like to see me go through more intense drugs. "Her best chance is to get her liver healed and then worry about her eyes. We need to get the arsenic out," he said to us.

After a while, the Royal Physician left the room. Ivan held my hand. "I need to get going to parliament to talk about some things. Also, I have a meeting with the Prime Minister at his home about our security plan," he said to me.

"Okay," I said to him. He kissed me on the forehead and left the room. He knew about my concerns for him with the Prime Minister. He was trusting my judgement. I was waiting for my medication to arrive.

Soon, I was getting a new dose of drugs. I took the drugs. I really didn't like that fact that half of my meals made up of drugs. After a while, my stomach became uneasy. "Can...I get a bucket please," I said out loud.

A lady in waiting gave me a bucket. I threw up violently. I knew that it was from the drugs. "Get the Royal Physician! Her Lady is vomiting," I heard. I heard people rushing out of the room. I emptied my stomach and laid down on the bed.

The lady in waiting wiped my mouth and offered me water. I only took a sip. I felt very exhausted. I heard the lady in waiting going into the bathroom and wash out the bucket. I felt bad for her but, it was her job.

After a few minutes, the lead Royal Physician came into the room. He checked my pulse and other things. "I know that you are vomiting from the medications but, you need to take them," he told me. He gave me the medications.

I forced myself to take them. After taking them, I felt my stomach feeling uneasy again. I reached for the bucket and vomit the medications. I felt tears falling down my face. I felt extremely sick. I coudn't take the drugs anymore.

"Can I please take a break?" I feel very sick and exhausted," I pleaded to the Royal Physician. He let out a sigh and gave me a nod. He was going to give me a day to settle down and relax. He left the room.

I slept the rest for a while and ate some porridge. I could tell that the porridge had medications in it. {I guess the Royal Physician are trying to sneak drugs in my food.} I forced myself to eat and drink everything.

After a while, I went to sleep.

Ivan and Mikhail returned to the fortress late at night. He started to see what Beverly was talking about when it came to the Prime Minister. He could see Polina's advances towards him. The Prime Minister was acting strangely.

They didn't come to an agreement about improving our security. He invited him to the fortress tomorrow to complete the plan in order to send it to parliament to vote. If he have him in the fortress, he would be able to keep an eye on him in a different environment.

Once at the fortress, he talked to the Royal Physician to learn about Beverly's treatment. He told him to keep an eye on her. After talking to him, he walked to her room. He could see that she was in pain but, she was resting peacefully.

He brushed the loose hair off of her face. Mikhail walked up to them. "Would you be sleeping here sir?" he asked him. Ivan just nodded his head. Mikhail had someone bring some of his things into the room.

He didn't leave her side.
