Grayson:
I feel the sunlight on my eyes, I open them.
Cami is watching TV.
"Sleep good?" she asks.
"Yeah, you?" I stretch and sit up in bed.
"No because Adelaine kept waking up last night, and you" she took a pillow from behind her back and started hitting my with it "you didn't even hear her! Did you?" she lays the pillow down.
"I did two or three times, but you got up so I didn't do anything."
"Ugh, Grayson this is a team effort! Step up!"
"Well I'm sorry, I'm not used to being a dad."
she ran her fingers through her hair frustratedly.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that, it would just be nice if you would help me from now on."
"And I will."
I lean in and give her a quick peck on the lips.
"My baby bump is gone." she frowns and rubs her stomach.
"Your boobies aren't though." I smile.
"Shut up Grayson!" she hits me with the pillow again.
I make tongue movements at her.
"You really wanna do that Gray? Really?" she asks raising one eyebrow.
I thought about it, then smiled.
"Yeah."
"I have stitches, Grayson I have stitches." she says falsely excited.
"Huh?"
"I have stitches! I have stitches in my VAGINA!" she said putting emphasis on 'vagina'.
"What? Ew. No!" I exclaim.
"Yes, honey." she cups my face with both hands and places a light kiss on my lips.
"I feel bad for you. It must feel terrible when you pee!"
She laughs.
"Yep." she presses her lips together and a dimple forms on each of her cheeks.I hear Adelaine crying.
"I got it!" I yelp before Cami can say anything.
I jump out of bed and run into her room.
And then I realize it. I realize how utterly beautiful my daughter is. The sunlight comes through the window and shines right over her crib. It hits her face just right. I see how rosy her cheeks are. I see that her eyes aren't just brown. They're brown with hazel-ish green speckles towards the middle of her eye. Her lips are just the right shade of pink. And her hair. That beautiful thick hair of hers, is a light brown, with blonde strands in it. While I observe her, she stops crying and looks at me. Does she know that I am her dad?
I lift her out of the crib and hold her chest to mine, careful to support her neck, and we walk back into mine and Cami's room.
When I sit on the bed, Adelaine looks at Cami; like they have this bond; this Mother - daughter bond. She must know that that's her mom, she was inside of her for seven months.
My thoughts are interrupted when Cami says,
"Ooh! Let me take a picture!"
She takes her phone from the nightstand and takes like twenty-seven pictures.
I laugh,
"Okay, okay, we have plenty of time to take pictures." I smile, kissing Adelaine's forehead.
"I'm going to make breakfast." Cami says, getting up from the bed.
"Uhm, I don't think you get it," I said and raised my eyebrows.
"Huh?"
"You can't leave me alone with her! I mean like, what if she poops? Or does that weird pukey thing babies do?"
She rolls her eyes,
"Then you'll have to figure out how to deal with it." She winks and then walks out.
I sigh.
"Well I guess we can just watch TV, Addy."
I prop her up on the pillow beside me and turn on Disney Junior."
----------
Ethan:
I can hear someone downstairs, I get up to see who it is.
Cami.
I am still struggling to get over Cami.
But its hard.
"Hey." my voice comes out a little shaky.
She flashes a smile as she wisps eggs in a bowl,
"Hey Ethan."
"Whatcha making?"
"Well I am making eggs now, and I'm going to make turkey bacon, and chocolate muffins."
"Mmm." I pat my stomach.
"Want to help?"
"Yeah, sure."
I walk behind her, my hand is on the wisp, my arms are around her.
I feel her tense up.
"Its okay, relax." I whisper.
She takes a deep breath and continues stirring the eggs.
"All done." her voice comes out shaky.
She pours them in a pan.
I still stand behind her.
"Ethan," she turns around, her nose touching mine.
She pulls her nose away from mine.
"This is wro-" She begins.
I cut her off, "Right."
I smash my lips against hers.
For a moment she kisses me back.
But then she pulls away.
"I can cook by myself, thanks Ethan."
She says avoiding eye contact, instead she stares at my chest.
"Cami it doesn't have to be like this, okay? We could work things out, like before."
"No Ethan, we can't, because it never worked out before! Everything crumbled apart."
"Just trust me."
"No Ethan!"
Grayson cones downstairs.
"What's going on?" he asks.
"Nothing." I look into Cami's eyes and then walk away.
----------
Cami:
I am still trying to process how Ethan is still trying to "work things out" with me. Is it not clear? Him and I just can't have each other. It wasn't meant to be.
"Are you okay?" Grayson asks.
"Yeah, I'm okay."
He cups my butt with his hands and smashes his lips against mine.
I kiss him back even though the idea of kissing anybody made me want to puke right now.
He pulls away.
"Are you sure you're okay?" he asks with concerned eyes.
I wrap my arms around him and lay my head against his chest.
"Just fine."
