Hello everyone, I'm very sorry for this update, I am alive and well, but I received chemical burns around my eyes at work, (no permanent eye damage thankfully, no need to worry!) In the recovery time I've realized that I really lost passion for this and don't feel like I can connect to the story anymore, I'm very sorry to anyone who may have been looking forward to an update. I may eventually come back and either rewrite this or add a new chapter, but don't count on it. That being said, I don't want to leave you all wondering about how the story was planning to go, so I am going to write it into a section beneath the divider, so anyone who wants the end of the story can see what it would have been, or maybe write there own ending and what not, and anyone who doesn't can just avoid reading it.
I want to thank you all for your continued support, I may write other stories in the future, but again, I wouldn't count on it. If anyone wants to rewrite this, use this as a concept or basis for their own fic, or write their own ending, feel free to! I'm sure other readers would be excited to engage with you and your work!
If you wanted life updates, (outside of the eyes thing), I'm doing very well! I'm currently working two jobs and about to get an A.A. at my college, my family life is well, and I've got hobbies to help fill my time.
———INTENDED ENDING PLOT:———
The big reveal, which I'm sure was obvious enough as I'm not a very subtle writer lmao, was that N.M.E. had turned humans and other Earth animals into his monsters, hence why so many of N.M.E.'s monsters in the show related to our world, like the episode with real life art from our world, or the monster that's basically an elephant. I liked the idea of humans are space orcs, and thought that, for these seemingly unstoppable monsters, (unless you're literally a trained fighter/warrior), it could make sense for them to come from a 'death world' as it's classified in those stories!
The bigger twist that I wanted was that N.M.E. was actually your grandfather, being the only living relative you have left, I never decided if he was the only other 'human' left though. I was intending to focus more on the desire to get back to family, so when the reveal about N.M.E. came it could be a sort of big climactic moment where you choose your family from Popstar, (Meta Knight and Kirby), over your biological family, or what's left of them.
Some other plots I wanted to flesh out were whatever was going on between the reader and Escargoon, as him telling his mom he had adopted you instead of Meta Knight was kind of crazy for him to do unless he had something else going on. I was planning to go into detail in the episode where everyone forgets him about his own desire to make connections while he was away from his mom, how he saw that happening for someone as seemingly closed off as Meta Knight and got a bit jealous, hence why he sort of 'stole' the relationship for his letters to his mom, and ends with a small alliance between you and Escargoon, although it was meant to be really small, as he'd continue to harass you with DeDeDe if prompted to.
I did kind of want to have DeDeDe connect with the reader about 'the last' of their kind in a way, with how he's the only bird in the Kingdom. I don't remember if I already had him use his favor, but if not, I was going to have him use it to help him legitimize his reign in Cappy Town in the episode where he plants a fake body to make it look like his family had been the rulers of the land for generations, and maybe just have a small conversation about not having anyone like you, but that would kind of be as far as that relationship would go. I don't know that he would really interested in changing and reforming.
The other idea I had for DeDeDe's favor was to have him force the reader to go back to N.M.E., either because they offered him some sort of discount or deal in exchange for you, or because he knows when you were a monster, that was the closest anyone got to killing Meta Knight, and he's surprisingly always been suspicious of him in the show, even if he wasn't digging deep enough to find out why he was suspicious. This would have meant absolutely no connection with DeDeDe.
I was hoping to maybe have Sword and Blade Knight be like older brothers or cousins, maybe uncles to the reader and Kirby, but I wasn't really sure how to go about it, and I didn't have anything super concrete planned outside of similar interactions to what I had already written for them.
I also liked the idea of Sirica and Knuckles Joe being reader's adoptive cousins, but they weren't in the show enough for me to figure out how to involve them that way outside of things like the phone call.
Of course, the fic was always meant to end with you staying with Meta Knight and Kirby, but I couldn't decide between the reader getting an extended lifespan from N.M.E.'s monster drug, or just having a regular life span. I probably would've gone with extended lifespan span, as I at least implied you had been alive a very long time between Earth's 'invasion' and when you woke up on Popstar. That being said, I was intending to make it so you were a monster in that time, so Meta Knight could still have fought Wolf Wrath in the past, and the reason why you stoped being a monster was because you were so close to where Kirby's ship crashed, and the energy from his ship cured you. I also wanted that to be part of the explanation for why you didn't stay a monster long after being taken and injected the first time, you had been spending so much time around Kirby and Meta Knight that the Star Warrior energy they had, (particularly from Kirby considering how much its theorized that he's in some way related to cosmic good or the void or other supernatural things).
I did want to go episode by episode initially, and write you into each one, or at least have you do something in the time those episodes took place, but at some point I realized it was better to skip certain things or jump around.
Meta Knight's relationship with you would've continued to progress as it was in the story. I feel I've already written to a point where the reader trusts him and they both care about each other, the reader even seeing him as a potential parental figure or at least a role model, and that would've continued, the relationship slowly getting more 'domestic' (with Kirby too), until eventually he basically extorts Escargoon into letting him legally adopt you. You don't get to sign the papers until after the final battle with N.M.E. though.
