Chapter 2:
The bell rings, signalling for lunch.
Newly hired photography teacher, Song Jihyo, was fixing her folders in her classroom before going out and get something to eat in the cafeteria.
You would think that Seoul high with it's high standards would at least have a well-ordered food hall, but no. The cafeteria was hell, everybody in line (if you can call this huge mess of a crowd a line), are dying to get their favorite pangg. "Only five more servings of kimbap left!" An ahjumma shouts in front.
'Hwaa~ I want to eat kimbap!'
Jihyo tried her best to force herself through the crowd, yet she always ends up getting pushed back to the spot from where she started. Until she almost slipped down, luckily, somebody caught her before her butt could even hit the cold floor.
"Do you need help? What do you want to eat nuna?" This angel sent from above suddenly asked her.
"K-kimbap..." She simply says, speechless from the pretty face that had just been inches away from hers.
"Roger that!" The young man lastly says, seeing to it that Jihyo can handle standing on her own two feet before saluting and beginning his mission.
Jihyo watched intently, but to her dismay, she lost sight of him. After thirty seconds of waiting, she hears the ahjumma shout again.
"There's no more kimbap!"
She lets out a sigh, and turned around to start walking back to her classroom to only drink a bottle of flavorless water for lunch. 'I knew it was too good to be true.'
"Nuna!"
She stops dead on her tracks and turns around to see the same boy from earlier, holding a container that has hot and delicious kimbap.
Her eyes automatically lights up, and she felt like she could just hug this stranger on the spot. But she decided not to, since she's a new teacher - not really a good image to hug a student.
"Omo!" She couldn't help but let out as this young man passes the package to her, "How much is it?"
"Aniya, gwenchanha. It's on me." He cooly says, a breeze that came out of nowhere passes by and makes the scene looks so cliche as their hair gets blown by the wind. "Are you a transfer student?"
Jihyo couldn't help but giggle at the young man's innocence, "What's your name?"
"Lee Taemin." He simply responds even though he's confused as to why his question didn't get answered, and stretches his hand out which Jihyo politely shakes with her free hand.
At least this changes her perspective about the school being full of brats, one is an exception. "Song Jihyo, photography seonsaeng."
"Aigoo! Aigo, aigo!" He exclaimed in shock, bowing ninety degrees. "Mianhae, for calling you nuna. I even tried hitting on you, aaa! Jinjja."
"Aigo~ it's fine. For now at least. You're my life saver." She pats the young man's back while giggling at his silliness, getting a bit embarrassed as to why people are staring at them.
"Would you like to join us in our table seonsaeng?" He asks, scratching the back of his neck.
"Ah.. Eh."
"Don't say no, jebal. Just once." Taemin convinced, and she nodded hesitantly, following him as they were having small talks.
Taemin led Jihyo to a crowded table, where there was only a seat for one person available. "Taemin-ssi, I don't think there's any space for me."
"Don't worry seonsaeng, sit on my seat." He said, patting her shoulders to gently force her to sit down while he stands behind her.
Jihyo looked to her left and to her right, all faces were warm and greeting her. She smiled back, as to avoid looking unfriendly. And they acknowleged her presence, including her in their conversations.
Beside her, was a couple. She thought they were kidding when they introduced theirselves, Choi Minho and Choi Sulli, like playing house to get the husband's family name. But they really did have the same last names, as if it was destiny. Which made Jihyo squeal, these kind of stuff excite her.
She was enjoying herself with her free kimbap and good company until a person walked in their laughters, making her frown. It was Jongin.
He was actually just going to pass by, but he saw a familiar face and he couldn't help but want to tease the owner of said face.
"Hey Taemin-hyung, new face?" Jongin smirked his way in the conversation.
"Ah, Kai-ssi, she's..."
"Song Jihyo ahjumma." Jongin finishes off, looking intently at his target.
"Ya! Neo! You want to fight?" Jihyo challenged, fist raised in the air.
"Ha! How can I fight an ahjumma like you? You wouldn't even last five minutes." Kai threw back, enjoying the scene and forgetting that they are publicly having an arguement.
"Ya! Has anybody taught you the word respect?"
"How about you? Respect. You're a seosaeng and you hang out with students, for your information ahjumma, favoritism shouldn't be done."
Jihyo was speechless, he was right. So before she can even be more than an acquaintance to the table's group, she stood up from her seat so suddenly that she surprised Taemin, thanking everybody on the table and started to walk away.
Kai frowned in a snap after Jihyo walked out, thinking he might have gone overboard. 'Nahh! Fudge it! Why should I care about that ahjumma.' He thought before bowing to his hyungs and nunas (Taemin and his group), and resuming his walk to buy something to munch on while he skips next period.
"Seosaeng!" A girl's voice called, huffing as she tried to catch up with the infuriated Jihyo.
When Jihyo saw Sulli's face, she calmed down. Just a tiny bit.
"I have photography next." The young lady said when Jihyo raised her eyebrows in question.
Jihyo nods, yet she hasn't fully recovered her sensible side after the earlier incident, thinking hard about it. She's fully aware that she should be professional and not befriend her students, yet it wouldn't be a lively workplace if she doesn't.
Lively? That's actually the last thing she wants. She's only here to prove that she's an amazing teacher, and in the most critical time of this school's life - she would leave.
Yes, she's going to make them run after her and beg her to stay. And that's when she's going to mention the past, and reject them this time around.
"I guess Kai has a new target." Sulli announces, breaking Jihyo's train of thoughts and as well as the silence that grew around them.
"What do you mean?" The seosaeng ask.
"He does this every year... finding a new girl, teasing, and then he would turn cold afterwards. But last year was an exeption."
"W-what happened last year?" She tried her best to look uninterested as much as possible.
"I can't tell, I don't really want to give out false information, especially to a seosaeng. You should as Kai directly."
"Oh... So his name is Kai?" Changed the topic immediately, making a mental note to interrogate this punk tomorrow afterschool.
"No, that's just his nickname. His real name is Kim Jongin." She pauses, as if she was a robot you ask stuff and expect them to know everything. "He has alot of nicknames actually. Kaura = Kai + aura, Kaisma = Kai + charisma, and too many to mention in one go. Mwo? I know stuff."
"I see..." Jihyo lastly said as they entered her classroom, preparing her list of questions for that Kim Jongin for tomorrow.
