I was laying on my bed, Erica on one side and Loui on the other. Erica was reading a novel, Loui was licking his paws, while I lay face down on the covers doing nothing. Today was just not my day. I could still hear Aiden and Kalen talking.

"Erica, what would you do when you and your brother do when you are free from the witch?" I asked, trying to fill in the silence.

Erica put down her book and looked at her. "I'm not sure. I haven't thought that far ahead yet." she said, considering.

I nodded. "Why do you hate witches?"

Her face hardened. "They're cruel, heartless, and speak with the devil."

I flipped over and looked up at the ceiling.

"Do you hate witches?" she asked, curious.

"I don't know." I said, honestly. "What if I met a nice witch?"

"There's no such thing as a nice witch." she snorted.

"Says who? Just like humans, there are bad people and there are good people. Would you consider the whole human race evil?"

Erica looked at me suspiciously. "But they still talk to the devil. That's ungodly and God wouldn't forgive those who communicate with Satan."

"True." I said, but it was anything but. My own opinion was that God loved everyone, despite their sins, and would accept them for who they really are; Diviner, Shifter, human, and all.

"And that's why they all must burn." she said simply.

It was strange, talking about my race of people burning, or dying at the Witch Trials. It hurt, but I could see where Erica's hatred came from. I was about to say something back to her, but then there was a loud crashing sound.

I raced out of my room to see Aiden, Eamon, and Kalen staring in horror at the knocked down front door. Night had fallen, and the whole town seemed to have come, pitchforks and torches in hand. For once, I feared the worst, and I was right.

"Hand her over Aiden. We know you have her." one man said. Shouts rang out, agreeing.

Aiden got up, and dusted off his clothes. "I have no idea what you're talking about, gentlemen. Now I please ask that you take your leave before I call the authorities."

They paid no attention to his threat. "Your so-called cousin, what's her name... Alyssa. She has been accused of witch craft."

Erica looked at me, wide eyed. "You said that you didn't know Alyssa." she whispered.

{[Eamon]}

Everyone in town had seemed to gather in a rage just to look for Alyssa. I glanced up the stairs and saw her hiding behind a pillar. That was a mistake.

Joshua Blakely, the head of the crowd, followed my gaze. "There she is! Catch her! Don't let her cite any spells; tie her up, gag her!"

Alyssa scrambled from behind the pillar and actually jumped from the ledge and down to the main floor, and ran down the hall.

We all scrambled backwards to avoid the crowd that seemed to pile into our home, searching for her.

"Try and find her familiar!" someone else called.

"We've got her!"

My blood ran cold. I tried to go to her, but father held me back with a shake of his head. "She can handle herself." he murmered. Kalen's lips were pursed, his face red from anger.

The townsfolk dragged a kicking and screaming Alyssa back. Her arms were tied behind her back, a gag covering her mouth, her hair a blonde mess.

Erica was still on the steps, her face pale. "You lied to me." she kept on whispering, over and over.

Joshua came over and clapped father over the shoulder. "I'm so sorry that you had to be victim to this, Aiden."

"How did you know of this?" Aiden asked.

"We heard from a neighboring town that a witch had escaped her home before they burned it down. It was only a few days later that she showed up. She must've hexed you to think that she was your niece, and cast a spell on you. You couldn't have recovered that fast when you did."

My blood ran cold. They had burned down her house before she came here. I glanced at her. She was still struggling, but managed to get free from the gag. "You can't do this to me!" she raged.

"Silence, witch." Joshua said.

Alyssa's lip curled up in a snarl.

"Get back! The Devil's possessed her!" someone shouted.

The person holding me loosened his grip on me for a second, but that was all I needed. I was flexible enough to bring my arms over my head, still tied and whacked someone, anyone, just to get their hands off me.

Hands recoiled, and I bolted for the door, leaping over the people blocking the door. I whistled and Loui flew down the steps and raced out the door with me. I raced through the woods at top speed, not letting anyone catch me.

For once, I felt free.
