Chapter 3
(Jasey Rae's point of view)
"Jake, you home?" I called out as I walked in to my older brother's apartment. As I kicked off my shoes i dug in to my bag and pulled out a tennis ball i bought at a pet shop i passed on my way home.
"Caleb... come here boy. I got you something." I threw the tennis ball into the living room where i suspected Caleb would be and soon regretted it when i heard a loud crash followed by a loud "shit", which i figured came from Jake. I ran in to the next room to find Jake lying on his back on the floor with Caleb sitting on top of him with the tennis ball in his mouth. As soon as Caleb saw me he quickly ran over to me dropping the tennis ball in the process.
"Aww did you miss me?" i asked as i bent down to picking him up cradling him in my arms. Caleb was a black and white Alaskan husky with icy blue eyes. He's a year old, i found him one day while i still lived in the foster home, he was only about five months at the time and he was in pretty bad shape. When i had finally convinced my foster parents to let me keep him, i nursed him back to health and we've been together ever since.
"what the hell was that for Jasey?" Jake asked sitting up and rubbing his head.
"Oops. sorry Jake i just wanted to play with Caleb. I didn't think that you'd be here since you didn't answer when i called for you." I said as i reached down to help him up.
Jake was my older brother and the only family i had left. He's the complete opposite of me. He has tan skin and blond hair with green eyes. I had all our mother's features and Jake had our father's features. Our parents passed away a few years ago, i was 14 and Jake was 19. I had to live in foster homes but Jake was able to start living on his own. He tried to get custody of me but he wasn't capable of taking care of me at the time. When i turned 16 and started to get mixed in with the wrong crowd, Jake was 21 and had already graduated college and saved up enough to get this apartment. He was pretty pissed when he found out some of the shit that i got into and found a way for us to live together were he could keep me in line and help put me through college or whatever i planned on doing. That's what he said when he was lecturing me anyway.
"right i was on the phone before i was hit in the head with a tennis ball. anyways Kane called and he needs me down at the garage. Rivers called in and said he can't make it till later." Jake said as he bent down and picked up his phone from where it had fallen when he dropped it and then walked off toward the kitchen where he found his keys and shoes near the door.
Jake worked at a garage fixing cars and was payed well there. I'm gonna need to find a job soon i don't want to keep relaying on Jake for money and... wait a minute. Did he say Rivers? No... it couldn't be... could it?
"hey Jake when you said the name Rivers did you mean Brycen Rivers?" i asked hoping that he didn't.
"um yeah i did. why you know him?" Jake asked as he turned to look at me while he put on his jean jacket that had the company logo he worked for on the back of it.
" yeah i know that jerk. He made me get detention today, that's why i was late getting home."
"Really Jasey. Detention, on your first day? i thought we talked about staying out of trouble and Rivers is nothing but trouble." Jake said with a frown on his face.
"Okay first of all Jake, i know you just want the best for me and stuff but i can take care of my self and Rivers is just some jerk who thinks he can push everyone around and needs to be put in his place if you ask me." Jacob really needs to learn that i'm not a little girl, i wont be lettting anyone push me around anymore. I've made that mistake before and it got me in some serious trouble. Lets just say that if it wasn't for Jake I would probably be in juvy.
