Shane's POV

I panted and panted as I sprinted through the tall grass. Jaq's unconscious and bleeding form was limp in my arms. I felt fear course through my body as I ran.

The fat ass idiot who shot Jaq ran behind me with Chance beside him. I heard him struggling to keep up, and when he was moving too slow I turned to him.

"How far! How far!!" I commanded.

"Just keep going straight! It's another 3 miles! Ask for Hershel, he'll help her!"

I sprinted ahead again, determination in my eyes as I pushed myself further and further.

I leaped over fence towards a two story house. Four people were on the porch, watching as I ran up to them.

The older man spoke up. "She bit?"

"Shot," I said. "By your guy. You Hershel?"

"I am."

I walked up the porch. "Please, save her!" Desperation filled my voice as tears pooled my eyes. "Please!"

A woman with short brown hair opened the door for me and I followed in after Hershel.

"Maggie, I'll need water and rags. Patricia, get the med supplies." Everyone went to do their jobs as I followed Hershel into a bedroom. "Set her down there."

I placed Jaq gently on the bed. She looked so pale and... lifeless. Hershel started pushing me aside and I started asking questions. "Is-is she gonna be okay?"

"What's your name?" Hershel asked.

"Shane." I chocked out.

"Shane," Hershel started pushing me out the door. "In order to help her, we need some space. Go wait in the family room and we will keep you posted."

The door was slammed in my face. I pressed my hands in the door and rested my forehead against it.

I felt something nudge my shin. Looking down, I saw Chance who whined. I sighed as I kneeled down to his level and pet him.

"She'll be fine boy. She'll be fine." I realized that I was trying to convince myself that instead of the other way around.

A young, blond teenager walked up to me. "He's a cute dog. What's his name?"

I stood. "Chance."

She bent over. "Hi Chance. I love dogs." She held out her hand. "I'm Beth."

I took it. "Shane Walsh."

She pulled away and grabbed the hand I took. "Whoa. Strong grip."

I rubbed my head. "Sorry. Just... There's a lot going on right now."

She nodded. "I understand."

Suddenly the door behind me opened to reveal Hershel. He looked at me. "We need you in here."

I didn't hesitate and barged into the room. Jaq was still unconscious on the bed, sweating and pale. I felt as if everything was drained from my body whenever I looked at her in this state. It felt like torture. "What'd ya need?"

"Blood. What's your blood type?"

"O positive."

"Good, because she is AB positive. You'll be able to give her some blood."

I wasted no time. I rolled up my sleeve. "Take as much as you need."

Patricia pushed me into the chair next to Jaq and started taking my blood. The other woman, Maggie, spoke to me. "Is there anyone that you're with?"
