Vesuvius erupted in a massive explosion.
Rocks and ashes climbed into the atmosphere.
A scalding-hot blanket on Pompeii.
People were killed by fall rocks and the build-up of ash.
For eight hours, ash fell, stacking up to a height of eight to ten feet.
Thousands of people leaving ten percent behind.
Before midnight the eruption changed,
Debris from the volcano began to collapse,
And turned to molten rock.
Further flows wipe the city from the face of the earth.
Herculaneum, Pompeii, and Stabiae were buried under ton of
Concrete ash.
