Chapter 28

We returned to the main room in the castle. The place was empty, my father and Bizak were not there. Then we stopped in the center of the room without knowing what to do. I was trying to make myself familiar to that place.

"Where are they?" I asked, looking from side to side. At that moment I need to see some of them. But my eyes saw just stone walls and large candles.

"Probably they are resting. If you let them, they sleep all the time." Valeska smiled suavely as her lips were very red. "A good sleep helps to restore our energies and we 'vampires' need too much," she explained calmly as her eyes ran to my figure before her.

"Where's ... Eros?" my throat looked blocked as I hesitated to pronounce his name. I looked insecure as thinking about Eros. He had the power to confuse my mind. His image, his gaze and everything about him always made me bemused.

"He is reposing, too," Valeska responded and cast me a suspicious look. I feared her eyes for some instants. I alarmed she could read my mind. That looked so foolish when I perceived she had no power to do it.

Forward Valeska asked me to accompany her to the other room of the castle. She wanted to show me something. However, she would not tell me what it was.

We walked in silence through the castle corridor. A deep silence united to us. However our steps were heard weakly.

"Make no noise; we vampires have very acute hearing. We hear any noise at several miles away and hate to be interrupted when we are asleep," she warned me.

Even so I did exactly what she said and then we walked softly on tiptoe, as if any person would surprise us at any instant. She stopped in front of a dark door and I stopped walking behind her. My gaze ran aside as I tried to be myself and proceed as I had always done in the Earth. After all I was in my father's castle and not in a dangerous place. I imagined my father and Eros would never desire me the worst.

"Not a word," her forefinger touched her lips while I was warned before she opened the door and went inside.

We entered a dark room with no light whatsoever. There were only walls and some strange objects. If I could describe them I would say they were things from other world. But thinking about it better, Neptune was other planet. It was totally dissimilar to Earth.

In the dark I could not exactly see it with any clarity. We stopped in the middle of the room. Valeska looked up at the ceiling and gestured with her head at me. Consequently, I did the same and I looked up at the ceiling just like she did. What I saw amazed me. I remained motionless.

Eros was sleeping with his head down as his body was hanging from his bedroom ceiling. His hands were crossed on his chest. His face looked so attractive.

At that moment he looked like a bat sleeping with its head down.

Valeska pulled my arm to her so we left his room at that moment before he could wake up. But I confess I wanted to stay there for some more time and gaze at Eros. He was perfect. His sleep was wonderful.

We stopped walking in the hallway, as soon as we got out of Eros's room. I leaned my body against the wall, thinking of that creature with his head down. Everything he did, in my view, was fascinating.

"What did you think of how he sleeps?" Valeska asked me as her eyes shone with light. I remained voiceless for some time. It seemed I was trying to find the correct words to describe that magical moment.

"I was surprised. I've never seen anyone sleeping like that...with their head down like a bat." I honestly answered and glanced down at my hand. I wanted to smile, but I couldn't carry out it. My lips were dormant.

"You know that's 'vampires' because normal people will never sleep that way," said Valeska, looking proud of it.

"Sometimes I forget you are ..."

Our gazes met.

"Creatures from Darkness," her voice interrupted me and completed my phrase with her right words. Valeska looked to be a fearless vampire. She had a strong personality.

I nodded at her as I thought of something unimportant.

"How did you become a vampire?" asked her, looking back at her pale face. Valeska smiled at me with amusement and responded, moving gradually her red lips.

"The right question is... when did your father turn me into a vampire?"

We progressed toward the hallway while she narrated her facts. She spoke calmly enough. I continued gazing at her with my surprised gaze.

"I had always been a troubled person. I had never lived well or got along with my parents ... and with my brothers. Then one day ... I decided to leave home ..." she explained everything and shook her hands.

"Did you abandon your family?" I asked as I sounded astonished.

"Yes, I did and I do not regret it. My family mistreated me all the time".

Valeska knew how to narrate her version. She described her painful life with her family. Her eyes didn't show any regret for her life like a vampire. She felt a pride at her life in that castle.

"I did not have anywhere to spend the night. I was under a tree at an abandoned place ...and then Vincent came out of the darkness and gave me a chance of life I had not had before." She looked up at the ceiling and smiled at it.

"Weren't you afraid?" asked her again. I needed to insist on that theme.

"Of becoming a vampire?" her head shook bit by bit. She asked smiling at me and said, "Oh, I love this life."
