Chapter Ten

The next few weeks flew by in a flurry. Caleb and I grew closer by hanging out with his friends, who I actually like. Maddox is a constant in our daily routine. With her endless chatter and funny remarks, she makes missing my family a little easier. Caleb's friend, Locke, also helps ease the pain. Locke is gangly and tall. He has a plume of orange hair on top of his head and friendly brown eyes. Like Caleb, Locke is mischievous. He enjoys placing small fires under people's booths in town. He has gotten yelled at more than anyone I've ever met.

Caleb and I spend our evening walking around and talking about things, everything really. As we walk and talk, I always observe the stars above us. That's what I'm doing now, as Caleb babbles on about how he thinks Maddox and Locke should really go out together.

"They're liked each other for years," He says. "They're both too scared to actually tell each other."

I snort unattractively. "Let them be."

He smiles and says nothing. I'm just about to say something when he grabs my hand. I am too shocked to do anything, so I just walk. Caleb is the one to break the silence.

"See that group of stars right there?"

"Yes," I say. "Why?"

"That's Orion, the Hunter," Caleb says, studying the stars earnestly. "Those three stars are his belt and his body goes from there."

"A hunter? What's he hunting?"

"Taurus, the bull."

"Where is he," I say, "in the stars?"

Caleb takes my hand and traces the outline of Taurus. When he's done he drops my hand. I instinctively grasp it and we continue walking. A small smile forms on my mouth. When we reach home, we drop our hands like they're on fire. I blush and reach to open the door, but Caleb does the same thing.

"Go ahead," I say awkwardly.

Before he opens the door he says, "Since I don't want to end up like Maddox and Locke, I'm just going to say it."

My eyebrows knit together in confusion.

"I like you, Ivy," Caleb tells me. "I've liked you since the night I saw you. I like how you don't care what people think about you. I like that you are yourself. And I love how you will do anything to protect people you care about. I think I'm falling for you, Ivy."

He swings open the door and we walk inside, my heart hammering at his confession. I gasp with shock when I see who's sitting next to Annie, tears running down their faces. My heart drops and I run to my parents. They grab me and hold me like they never want to let go.

"What? Why are you crying so much?"

My father looks at my mother. She nods ever so slightly then my father says the one thing that send my world plummeting in a downwards spiral.

"The Capitol has Skylar."
