Chapter Fifteen
"Skylar!" I yell. "Oh, Skylar, I'm right here. I'm going to get you out."
I wrap my fingers around his and look at his gaunt face. His cheekbones are startling visible and his sweet baby face is gone. This just makes me angrier. I scan the room for anyway to get my brother out. A key is no where in sight. I groan in frustration.
"Ivy, there's a switch over by the room's entrance," Sky tells me. "Hit that and the doors will open."
I run over to the entryway and see a box covered by red plastic. I lift the cover and flip the switch. Alarms blare and the cell doors open almost immediately. Skylar staggers out and I run to him. I wrap my arms around him and can't ever imagine letting him go.
A beeping noise comes from Caleb's earpiece.
"Ivy! We have to get out of here. Paylor just sent Peacekeepers into this building."
I grab my brothers hand and lead him out of the room. He's slow. If we're to get out of this building alive, we need to go faster.
"Caleb! Carry my brother!"
Caleb reaches down and throws Skylar over his shoulder. We continue to climb our way out of the basement. Even with the added weight, Caleb continues to keep up with me. Until we reach the Peacekeepers, that is.
I rip the gun out and aim at the group of five Peacekeepers. "Drop your weapons!"
Four of them drop their guns, but the other holds his ground. I aim at his heart and fire. He fires the same time I do. A fire begins to burn in my right shoulder. I scream and drop to the ground. Blackness consumes my thoughts.
I drift in and out of consciousness. I remember my father carrying me out of the building, but nothing after that. I wake up in a comfortable bed in a large room. I recognize it as my room on the tribute train. Why would I be on a train again?
I climb out of my bed and gasp in pain. I look at my right shoulder. A white bandage covers the wound. The door opens and my mother comes in. She pushes my good shoulder back onto the bed.
"Don't get up until I tell you to," She says.
I nod in response. She hands me two white pills and a glass of water.
Before I take them, I say, "Skylar?"
"He's fine. Caleb too."
I sigh in relief and take the pills. I fall asleep soon after.
Hey guys! This is the second-to-last chapter! Thanks for joining me on this ride with Ivy and the crew! I plan on writing a new book about a group of teens who survive a plane crash, but are stranded on a small island. Lots of humor and drama in that book! I'll post the first chapter soon, so keep an eye out!
