A/N: Hey guys :) 100 reads YAY :P Thanks so much for reading this. You guys are awesome.
I had a really tough time trying to get inspiration to write this chapter and I found I kept trying to make myself do other tings instead. So I am going to write this now just so I cant procrastinate any longer. It probably wont be very long because the real story doesn't actually start until Karina goes back to school and stuff so its kind of just a filler. Anyways, I hope you guys like it.

Chapter 5.
Monday morning rolled around in the blink of an eye. I suppose it's true that time flies when you're having fun. On Saturday night I called around to John's place. Believe it or not, he was actually home and he wasn't with Rachael.
Of course I tried my best to look nice. I wore my new shoes (which are more or less the only shoes I've worn since I bought them) and my ripped skinny jeans. I surprise my self, to tell the truth, when I looked in the mirror. I know it had only been a week but I still felt more confident. I got my hair cut that morning. It was still long and brown but this time it had a somewhat 'Selena Gomez' look about it.
I knew that I still didn't look good enough to join Lara Lacey and her posse and I certainly wouldn't be attracting the attention of any of the 'cool guys' but I was still happy. My list didn't seem as long. Although I must admit, there was still about twenty-seven steps left on the list.
We spent the evening just walking around and talking. It felt nice except I had to keep reminding myself that he didn't feel the same way as I did. Every time he laughed at one of my jokes or looked at me, my heart skipped a beat. In fact, just being near him made my stomach flip.
'I haven't seen you in ages!' He exlclaimed suddenly. I couldnt help but laugh. Not at what he had said but rather at the way he looked when he said it. We were lying on the pavement outside his house and his eyes were closed. His hair was a dark curly mop on his head and the hood of his grey jacket was pulled up.
'Yeah, too long.' I answered, still laughing at his face which at that point began to look more and more confused.
'What are you laughing at nimrod?' he said, pretending to be offended by my laughter.
'You.' I stated and he nodded his head as if it was a fairly reasonable explanation. We lay back down again and let the silence wash over us. In a way, sometimes we did act like a couple. Except for the fact he had a girlfriend and we had never kissed. We talked to each other as if we knew each other our whole lives. I kind of felt as if I could say anything to him but our conversations were usually light and humorous.
He walked me home just like he always does. I used to have to force him to walk me home in case I got attacked or mugged but now it just sort of happened naturally. When we reached my front door we kind of stood there awkwardly, just like we always did.
'So, um, bye, I guess.' I said to break the silence.
'Yeah, bye Karina.' He said as I turned to walk up the drive. He started to walk away.
'By the way, you looked nice today.' He shouted over his shoulder as I put my key in the door.
I find it kind of funny that just by saying those simple words he absolutely made my day. I smiled to myself every time I thought about it for the next two days. I really could not wait until he was mine. Or until I got the chance to show him the new and improved, more popular me.
On Monday morning my mom had to physiclly force me out of my bed. I skipped breakfast and headed straigh to school. Skipping breakfast had become a bit of a habit. As had skipping dinner and lunch too, for that matter. All I ate each day was my usual dry cracker and handful of almonds.
I know what you guys are probably thinking. 'Oh how horrible. Poor Karina.' but to be completely honest, it isn't very sad at all. I was going to be popular. I was going to be the girl everyone talked about. The girl who everyone looked up on Facebook to see the latest pictures from amazing parties and nights out. I was going to be a person I would be happy to be.
I sat in English class, not paying attention and doodling hearts and stars on my notebook when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see none other than Kim Wentz. Kim was Lara's best friend. The two were more or less inseparable except for during English, for which time Lara was in a different class. I was so shocked that she was even acknowledging me that I almost fell off my chair. I didnt, thank god, but I did freeze up.
'Did you get your hair done?' she whispered, in a sweet voice, twirling her blonde hair around her index finger and smiling.
I could have kicked myself because all I could manage to do was nod my head. It wasn't even just a normal nod. Oh no. It was a hysterical and frantic shaking of my head. I imagine I must have looked like my head was about to explode although, for my sake, I do hope it was one of those things that isn't quite as bad as one imagines it.
'Oh. Well, it's nice. I like it.' she smiled and turned back to talk to Eva Jenks.
For the rest of the day I was walking on air. I was so ecstatically happy that I would have done anything for anyone. Kim Wentz actuallytalked to me. Kim Wentz noticed me.
Kim Wentz liked my hair.
It's tough to decide what the best part about those few days was. The compliment from John. The new hair. Kim Wentz noticing me. Whatever it was, it gave me inspiration to keep going. I knew I was going to go back to school in three months and be popular.
Next year was going to be great.
