"There you are!"
Candice looked up at my shout that barely sounded over the thumping music and smiled. "Yes, I've been waiting for you," she said. My eyes left hers for a second to see Chloe sprawled on the couch, half-way onto her lap. Candice noticed my curiosity and scoffed. "She was completely shitfaced, I promise you."
I chuckled and held out my hand for her to take. Pushing off our friend, she took it and pulled herself up. "Wanna dance?" I asked, placing my hands on her waist and pulling her to me. She smiled uneasily before carefully taking them away.
"Can we go to my house instead?" she suggested and I nodded. We both knew what that meant, and it was ages since last time so I didn't object.
"Sure."
She took my hand and pulled me after her quite harshly. The summer breeze brushed my cheeks and chilled me from the heated room inside where we had been for hours. It was good to finally breathe fresh air again, and Candice probably felt the same way judging by how she inhaled the oxygen like it would be her last.
The walk was quiet on Candice's part. I tried starting conversations, about my day, about hers. I even went as far as discussing the weather, but apparently she wasn't up for talking so I didn't comment on it.
Once we reached her house only ten minutes later, it being completely dark due to her parents lack of presence, we bounced up the front steps and rushed inside the door.
"I'll go get it and we can sit in my room," she smiled and ran up the stairs quickly. I sat down on the couch in the living room and waited for her, staring at the ceiling as entertainment. What we did was wrong, extremely unhealthy and we both knew it. But it kind of became our thing. Get high, have sex. We both loved it, so of course we didn't stop.
Candice came downstairs but I barely even got to touch the ziplock bag before Riley came in and barged towards me, hands balled into fists and jaw clenched like he was trying to crush his teeth. It was a sight, to say the least, when he went for the punch and hit me square in the jaw, sending me a couple of steps back. I rubbed my aching chin and glared at him.
"What the fuck, Riley?!" It was as if Candice took the words right out of my mouth. I was moving my jaw around, trying to make it feel as if was in its right place again, yet not forgetting to send Riley the infamous stink eye. Over to him, he seemed to be in a state of shock for a few seconds, but shook out of it quickly and scowled right back.
"I could say the same to you," he accused and looked at his sister. "You told me you quit drugs months ago!"
She rolled her eyes, "Well, you were stupid enough to believe me. You should've understood that you don't just stop doing drugs."
Riley stared disbelievingly at Candice, seeming hurt, but turned to me instead of replying to her. "Why, dude?" he asked. "Why did you drag my sister into this, huh?"
"Don't blame him for thi-"
"That's none of your business," I interrupted Candice, crossing my arms. Riley huffed and pointed at my chest.
"Yes, as a matter of fact, it is!"
"No-"
"Get out of here, Riley." Ignoring my girlfriend again, I pointed to the door that still stood open.
"Not until Candice comes with me," he stated and stared pointedly at the mentioned girl. She shook her head briskly.
"I'm no-"
