I stared at my locker dumbly, and god did I feel stupid too. I was a Junior and there I stood, not even being able to figure out how to open a damn lock. It had been ten minutes since I attacked the daunting task and class was starting in five, plus, I didn't even know where that was. So yeah, it was starting to look like I would be needing that "new student" slip that prevented me from getting a detention.
I groaned and banged my head against the hard metal, then rubbing my forehead because it actually hurt. But then the harsh light from the ceiling was blocked and a shadow covered my face.
"You okay there?" an amused voice asked and I turned around. A girl (probably a Junior, too) stood there, books clutched in her hands with a pencil case balancing on top, staring at me like I was actually trying to open the locker with my head. Head-cheerleader, was my first thought. With those boobs and that face, she has to be.
"Yeah, just head-banging the locker for fun, you know," I snarked back and scoffed. I would've just turned my back on her and walked away on that note if I hadn't (believe it or not) needed the books that the office lady said she had put in my locker.
But the girl only laughed and swapped me her books for my information paper (which included the locker code) so she could have a go at the lock. "Riley said you were rude, but I didn't think he was right. Seems like he wasn't over-exaggerating this time, though." She started twisting at the lock, back and forwards (ah, so that's how you do it!), until it clicked and the locker-door opened.
"How do you know Riley?" I asked skeptically. "And what did he tell you about me?"
She raised her eyebrows in surprise at my peculiar interest in her connections, a small laugh escaping her perfectly painted lips as we swapped back things. "I'm his girlfriend," she said and I swear I whiplashed. He had a girlfriend? As in, someone liked the guy? Woah, I didn't see that coming (and probably not anyone else either, Riley seemed like this lazy kid that sat around in his basement all day playing video games). A girlfriend just seemed a little (or very) farfetched for a guy like him. I certainly couldn't stand the sight of his face anymore. "And not much, other than that you're his cousin and you're quite hot-tempered."
I glared at her and went for my locker. "Well, you can go tell him to shove 'hot-tempered' up his ass." I got the book I needed and slammed the door pointedly, getting the map for the school out of my pocket while balancing pre-calculus on my arm.
"You need help getting around?"
I looked up to see that she hadn't gotten the hint and was still there, and I almost growled out of irritation. Okay, now I kind of saw how she could like Riley, she reminded me all too well of him. But still, she was so fucking pretty. How could she not aim higher?
"No," I snapped just as my math book fell to the floor. But before I could pick it up, the blonde was already down by my feet (where she, in fact, did belong) and doing it for me.
"Look, if you weren't my boyfriend's family, I wouldn't have stuck around for so long, but-"
"Okay, let's pretend I don't even know the guy then," I interrupted and ripped my book out of her grip. She gasped lowly and pulled her perfectly manicured hands back to balance her own books.
"I don't like being on bad terms with people-"
"Well, suck it up, Blondie. You're probably gonna break up with him soon, anyway."
