"Your life is going nowhere Elena" I groaned running a hand through my hair "what do you mean Liam! I've got a job and a good apartment, my life's heading in the right direction!" I protested. He shook his head and looked at the rest of the four sitting at the table.
All four of my foster brothers have excelled in the last seven years. They made a name for themselves and now have companies all over the world. I on the other hand wasn't so lucky. Yes, I have a good apartment - as good as you can get it - and a good job but I don't have companies taking off like them.
James spoke up, "your living in a shitty run down apartment with thirty dollars to your name. Every time we see you, you've dropped another pound or two. You won't take our money and send it back no matter what form we give it to you, just last week you said no to the all expense paid vacation we set up and none of our names were on it!" He exclaimed sitting up. I sighed looking away. It is true, I have turned down thousands of dollars from them but it was because I make enough. I make enough.
"I don't need your money. I've got my own, a lot too" lies, I've barely got enough to pay for the sandwich I just ate but I'm not telling them. I'm getting my life sorted out, they've got to understand that.
I'm tired of people taking care of me, I've taken care of myself for twenty-five years and I'm not going to stop now. I want to be independent and when I truly need help, then I'll call.
A beep caught Liam's attention, he sighed pulling out his newest IPhone and rubbed his temples. "I've got a meeting in ten with no personal assistant to take my notes" he groaned turning to me "how about a deal? You come to this meeting and help me take notes, even record it if you don't want to listen and I'll give you the amount of money my old personal assistant made in a pay. It's nothing more than a couple of hundred. You'd be working for it, that should hold you off until we can convince you to get a decent job" I frowned.
A couple of hundred would get me through today and maybe the rest of the week but next week would go back to normal. Maybe I could get some new clothes and food to last me the month but I've still go unfinished bills to pay which will leave me at zero dollars left.
Another sigh.
I could take him up on his offer, I wouldn't be doing much and I did graduate at the top of my class with most of my teachers bragging about my notes. I could take him up on his offer. I could.
"Sure, fine, as long as you don't go over the amount you paid your last assistant" all five of the smirked and glanced at each other like they new something I didn't. Another sigh left me as I rose.
Liam rose too and threw down a couple dollar bills. "My building is just across the street, the meeting will last a hour but could go on for another thirty minutes. I'm going to transfer the money into your account sometime during it, are you okay with that?" Liam laid his hand on the curve of my back and lead me across the busy street. The cool crisp air blew my brown waves into my face, I pushed them away in a haste. Over the last seven years I've gotten use to the bipolar weather New York calls normal. It's either blazing hot or freezing cold. It's hardly ever in-between.
"Sure" we got to the door just as a man dressed in a black suit with a briefcase stepped out of a black BMW. His eyes met mine before they met Liam who stood close behind me. "Mr. Sterling so nice to see you again" Liam greeted with a broad smile the man, Mr. Sterling, forced a smile and shook his hand. "So nice to see you too Mr. Foster, how have you been" though it wasn't a question Liam still replied.
"Good, I've bought three companies in the last month and hopefully this meeting will go well and you'll have 35 percent on my company" Mr. Sterling chuckled bitterly "50" he corrected, Liam smirked but said nothing as he held the door open.
I looked between the two with a raised eyebrow but said nothing. We headed to the private elevators.
"So who is this?" Asked Mr. Sterling, Liam glanced at him before wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me closer to him. I closed my eyes. "Miss Foster, my sister" Mr. Sterling frowned but nonetheless stopped talking and faced the front of the elevator. I looked at the numbers that slowly increased, I exhaled knowing that it would take another three or so minutes to get to the 23rd floor we're the meeting rooms are.
I turned my attention to Mr. Sterling.
He was a good foot or two taller than me standing at 6'9 with broad shoulders, medium cut black hair, piercing grey eyes and a muscular body. I on the other hand am 4'7 with a petite body most people can't see nor seem to want. I shook my head, five years of trying to find the right guy and no one was right for me. They were either drunk beer belly guys or weird geeks, which I have nothing to complain about when it comes to geeks.
The bell rang, we got off.
