"Today's the par-tay-tay day" announced Jess as soon as I arrived at school. Her Starbucks cup wobbled teeteringly in her hand, looking like it was about to spill. Knowing Jessie, it was probably a pumpkin spice latte, with a bunch of weird custom stuff added to it. She had taken me to Starbucks once and I just had no idea how to order. Like what was up with the sizes? What's a grande? Can't they just call it a medium?
"Shh it's invitation only? Remember?"
"Oh right. "
The rest of the walk to science was silent. Jess hadn't been talking very much after the whole cheerleading incident. Of course, after a little bit of extra makeup on her face and a few fake smiles she seemed like her normal perky self, but I knew of otherwise.
I sighed. "Jess are we not going to talk about this all? I don't want you hurt again."
Spinning around Jessie looked at me straight in the eye, stopping us in the middle of the hallway. "Enough, don't worry about it. I've got it covered, so stop asking me 'kay?"
I muttered an agreement before letting the silence between us take over again. Not soon after, some of Jessie's other friends whisked her away, leading me to walking the rest of to science by myself.

From there, school went by as normal, science and social in the morning, phys ed and English in the afternoon. I sat with Jessie at lunch at her old cheerleading squad's table, Amy casting us looks whenever possible. What an arrogant twat. Even worse, Jessie's old teammates acted like nothing was going on. They either didn't know or Amy was keeping them quiet. I was hoping it was the former.
Afterschool, the Coyotes Football team had an hour and a half long practice to prep before the season started. It was one of the easier practices, just repeating drills and motions until it became a habit and then a few laps at the beginning and the end to keep us in shape. Coach has still not told us who the team captain was and poor Jared was getting anxious. Then again, it seemed like Jared and Godzilla were feuding. Coach kept making him do extra drills and would punish him for the slightest error. I wasn't sure what was going on, but I hope that Jare still has a good chance at being captain, he really deserved it.
By seven I was ready to go to the small party and was waiting in front of the Jones' house. Wearing a leather jacket and jeans, I knocked on the door once before Mrs. Jones could swing it open.
"Oh hello Megan! Jessie will be done in a minute, please come in."
I attempted to step in, but Jess came running down the stairs just in time.
"Not neccesary mother, I'm here! Let's go Meg!"
Jessie pulled me back outside by my arm while I attempted to wave goodbye to the Mrs.Jones behind me.
"Thanks Mrs. Jones! We'll catch up sometime, alright!" I shouted, craning backwards against Jess' will.
"Of course darling! You're welcome here anytime!" she replied, waving gracefully before slamming the door shut quietly.
Twisting back around I got into Jess's pink Audi before turning to face her.
"What was that? Why can't I talk to your mother for one minute? She's a very nice lady you know," I huffed, puffing out my cheeks angrily. I was really hoping Mrs.Jones would offer me some cookies or something before this gathering thing.
"I've been avoiding her like the plague, I'm sorry. She doesn't know yet, nor do I plan on letting her know."
"Jess this is rediculous! You can't just avoid your mother because you got hurt! She's going to find out somehow," I reasoned.
