Chapter Four

Emily grabbed Brooklyn's arm quickly and tried her best to drag her back to the car. It was a struggle as Brooklyn tried to pull free, trying to reach Gail.

"Gail? Gail, where are you? Are you okay?" she asked frantically.

"Brooklyn, come on! We have to get you back to the car." Emily said to her and grabbed her arm.

"But where's Gail?" This time, Brooklyn didn't protest. She let Emily lead her way back to the car.

"He's angry Brooklyn. Very angry. Chase is calming him down before he changes here in public. It'll be okay. All of this is just a misunderstanding. They'll talk it out and then Gail and the rest of the boys will be back soon so we can all go home."

Brooklyn hated to think it, but she felt as if Emily was lying to her. That she was just telling her this so she wouldn't worry, or ask anymore questions. This wouldn't be the first time, either. And it's not only Emily. She had sensed Gail and even other pack members lying to her before, too. And she hated it. She liked all of them. They were always so kind to her and helped her through so much. Especially Gail. He was the only person to find when she woke up in the hospital three weeks after her wreck.

Brooklyn didn't say anything as she was put in the car. She was hoping that maybe this time Emily wasn't lying to her.

"Alpha, breathe. Just calm down. You can't change here in front of everyone. You'll put all of us in danger, including Brooklyn." It was unfair, Chase knew. But, using Brooklyn like that seemed like the only way to get Gail to calm down. And it worked, in a way.

Gail's bones shifted back to human form, the hairs on the places of his body where they shouldn't have been disappeared. Luckily, his pack members were smart enough to surround Gail when he started shifting and acted as if nothing was happening. They didn't need attention, and for a human to see a deformed and hairy guy.

"I believe this is not something we should be discussing in a public parking lot. I think it'd be best if we all went back to the pack house, don't you Alpha?" Chase said as calmly as he could.

"Yes, you're right. I think some tempers are going to get high." The whole time he spoke, he was glaring at the boy that had ripped Brooklyn's glasses off of her face, imagining ripping his head off of his shoulders. "You can follow us back." He said to the few pack members in front of him.

"Actually, you are on my territory. So, you'll be coming back with me." Damien spoke up.

He didn't like how this alpha was trying to act like he was in charge. As if he knew everything. And he definitely didn't like the fact that his mate was in their car, and Alpha Gail was acting extremely protective over her. She didn't belong to Gail, she was his. But, no matter how bad he wanted to speak up and say he wanted his mate with him, he didn't. He knew Alpha Gail was already on the verge of loosing it, and that didn't need to happen. Not here.

"Fine." Gail said, not sounding happy. He didn't like not being in control but, he knew the rules. He wasn't on his territory this time.

As he walked past so he could get to his Envoy, he snatched Brooklyn's sunglasses out of the rude boy's hand. He made a mental note in the back of his head to make sure he got payback on him.

"Gail?" he heard as soon as he opened the driver's door.

"Here's your sunglasses back." Gail's voice was soft as he spoke to her.

"What happened? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. What did I tell you about worrying about me?" Gail said as he looked back at her.

Her eyes were closed, hiding the almost complete whiteness of them. But, the scars were still there, surrounding both of her eyes. She put her sunglasses back on.

"To not to. But, I can't help it!" she wined back at him.

Gail didn't say anything as he pulled out behind the black SUV in front of them.

"Where are we going?" Emily asked.

"Seems we have to make another stop before we get to go home."
