Chapter One

Three years later

Damien sat in the chair behind his desk, completely tired. How he didn’t fall asleep right there, he wasn’t so sure. His mind was going crazy with a million different things at once. He wasn’t sure why for that, either. He just work up today on high alert, and his mind going through things that he preferred not to think about.

The main thing he couldn’t get out of his head was Brooklyn.

He hadn’t laid eyes on the big, blue eyed girl for three year but, the image of her was still carved in his mind. He had always been shy around her, never really talking to her too much. She was like the pack’s little sister to everybody. She was perfect. Well, in his fifteen year old eyes she had been.

After Brooklyn left, in only took a year for Adam, Damien’s father, to step down as alpha. He had said that he failed, that Brooklyn was dead by then. There was no point in looking for her now. He had made it clear that he was disappointed in his pack.

Now, not having to deal with the worries of the pack anymore, Adam usually stayed in his apartment room and drunk himself crazy. He loved Brooklyn like crazy, and he knew without words being spoken that when John and Sofia past, she was his responsibility. Adam had already had to deal with the death of his brother, beta, and his beta’s wife. Now it was their daughter he had to mourn for. It was just too much for him.

That left a sixteen year old Damien to take over the pack. Every day it was hard for him. He had no idea what to do. Most of the older pack members had helped through most of it but, it was still hard.

Damien sighed and got up from his chair. He was exhausted but, he felt the need to go through her file one more time.

He opened up his filing cabinet and flipped through the names. He already knew exactly where hers was but, flipping through them always seemed to calm him down just a little bit. He got to her name and picked her file out and turned around to take a seat once again. He opened up her file and was once again amazed by her blue eyes.

He always felt bad about what happened. Even though he had hardly said anything, he knew by the way he looked at her that day that it was clear how he felt. He had blamed her that day, and even a couple days after that. But, now that he was older and way more mature, he realized how stupid he had been, how stupid they all had been.

Some members of the pack still believe everything was her fault.  They believed their former alpha, Damien’s father, had betrayed them.

Damien looked through her file again. Her pretty fifteen year old face smiled up at them. Damien sighed. There had always been something about her that he liked. He couldn’t tell what it was but, something just made him want to protect her.

Too late for that, He thought to himself.

Damien could only hope that Brooklyn wasn’t dead. They had never found any signs of her anywhere. So there was still that little bit of hope. But, he didn’t dwell on it for too long. It was probably just his loneliness talking.

Werewolves are supposed to find their mate when they turn sixteen but, Damien was coming up to his eighteenth birthday and he still hadn’t found his yet. He desperately need his too. It was hard for him as it is, and his mate would make it easier for him.

He didn’t get a chance to dwell on that either.

There was a knock on his door and whoever it was didn’t wait for him to reply.

Dylan, Damien’s beta, came running through his door, looking out of breath. “Alpha, we have a problem.”

Damien raised his eyebrows as he waited for Dylan to go on.

“We have other werewolves in our territory. They’re not rogue but, they defiantly aren’t from our pack.”

“Where are they?” Damien asked calmly.

Dylan felt bad for his alpha and friend. He knew it was hard for him being alpha so young, and then not even having a mate by his side to help him out. Heck, it was hard for Dylan to be beta so young but, he had his mate already.

“They’re at the diner.” Dylan said.

“Alright, let’s go meet them.” Damien said and got up from his chair.

He took one last look at the blue eyed girl smiling at him before he walked out the door.
