Chapter 2

Damien stepped out of his black SUV, some of the guys from his pack following behind him. They were on their way into the diner, to see who these werewolf trespassers were. His wolf was on high alert, even more than he was before. He was begging to be let out. Damien was kind of worried. His wolf had never been so riled up before, and he wasn’t sure why he was now. He’d had trespassers before and he’d been acting a little crazy then but, this was way worse.

There had to be something else going on here.

“Come on, let’s go. I have stuff to get back to.” Damien said.

It was a lie: all Damien wanted to do was go back to the pack house and get some sleep. He hadn’t slept too much last night. He’s been restless since then.

He and his boys started walking towards the entrance to the diner. Every step he took, his wolf went wilder. Damien was having a hard time keeping him at bay but, he didn’t let it show.

Someone walked out of the diner as soon as Damien reached the doors. The man was polite enough to stop and hold the door open for them. He wasn’t a werewolf; he was just a nice man. Damien thanked him by nodding towards him. The man nodded back and as soon as Damien was in the diner, he let go of the door and walk towards his car.

Damien stopped dead in his tracks when he was just a few feet in. His wolf was howling now. He took a deep breath in and smelled the most delicious sent ever. His mouth immediately started to water. Now, he knew why his wolf had been going crazy all day.

Mate.

Damien couldn’t believe it. His heart was hammering in his chest. He had finally found his mate. Dylan came up behind him and looked at him skeptically for a second. Him and the other pack members were wondering what had stopped him. Once he saw the light, yellow color of his eyes and the way Damien was looking around and sniffing the air, he knew that Damien had found his mate. He had that exact same look on his face when he first smelled Evie.

Dylan slapped Damien on the back in congratulations, which seemed to snapped Damien out of his trance.

“Where is she?” he asked, his voice husky.

Before Dylan could reply, Brian started walking to a table in the back corner of the room.

“Well, well, well.” Brian said rather loudly. The people in the booth snapped their heads his way.

Brian was one of the pack members that hadn’t forgiven Brooklyn. As soon as he saw the girl that was sitting on the edge of the booth with big sunglasses on, he knew exactly who it was.

His old friend and pack mate, Brooklyn.

He walked over to where she was sitting and put his hands in front of her, leaning his face towards hers.

“You weren't killed after all, were you?” he said with a sarcastic smirk on his face.

The girl that was sitting next to Brooklyn put her arm around her protectively.

Before anyone could say anything though, Damien was right beside Brooklyn. She was his mate. He didn’t know who she was, all he knew was that she was his mate and she belonged to him now.

Brooklyn didn’t know what to say or do. She couldn’t see anything. All she could feel was Emily’s arm around her shoulders and someone's hot breath on her face. Her wolf was going crazy and she suddenly felt the presence of someone standing right beside her.

“W-who’s there?” she managed to stutter out.

This made Brian look at her in confusion. Damien on the other hand had hardly heard a word she said. He just listened to how beautiful her voice sounded. Her long, straight raven black hair had him wanting to run his fingers through it. And pull on it…

“You’re my mate.” His voice was husky and strained.

All he wanted to do was take her away and lock her up in his room, with him in there too of course.  And he was just about to when suddenly, someone grabbed his arm roughly and pulled him back. He turned around and growled loudly at the blonde haired boy that was tugging on his arm. He could tell that he was the alpha, and a couple years older than him.

Damien was struggling back. Which caused people to stare.

“Come on. You don’t want to make a scene, do you?” Gail said.

He was worried about Brooklyn. He didn’t know who this guy was, and there was a lot that Brooklyn didn’t know about.

Damien looked back at the girl that was still sitting there. He couldn’t see her eyes but, by the way she was looking around, he could tell that she was confused.

“Don’t worry. She’ll be fine. I need to talk to you, and now.”

Gail didn’t say it as a command. He knew that for an alpha to try and tell another alpha what to do would be useless.

Damien reluctantly nodded and motioned for his men to follow them. The other alpha’s men got up from the booth and followed them out, too. That left four girls, including Damien’s mate, still sitting there.

Now, Damien was standing in front of the other alpha, with his men behind him. The other alpha’s men were behind their alpha as well.

“Hello, I’m Alpha Gail. Alpha of the Red Rock pack.” Gail said and extended out his hand.

Damien cautiously took it. There was something about this guy that he didn’t like.

“I’m Alpha Damien, of the Blue Moon pack.”

“So, down to business. You say Brooklyn is your mate?” Gail said boldly.

Damien wasn’t sure if he had heard him right. Brooklyn?

It couldn’t be the same Brooklyn that he was thinking of, could it?

“Wait, Brooklyn who?”

“Brooklyn Colvert.” Gail said.

He saw the look of recognition for a split second on Alpha Damien’s face. But, after he said Brooklyn’s name, it was gone.

“What? What are you talking about?” Brian suddenly said, looking at the other alpha as if he had grown a third head.

“Excuse me?” Gail said.

He wasn’t sure why this guy was talking to him in such a disrespectful manner.

“That’s Brooklyn Morrison. I would recognize her anywhere.” Brian mumbled the last part bitterly.

Damien, on the other hand stopped listening after Brian said that. He could tell that Alpha Gail and Brian were arguing over the subject but, it was like everything was blocked out.

So, that was Brooklyn.

She hadn’t died.

And she was his mate.
