Chapter five
Gail was worried. He didn't like being on someone else's territory, where he couldn't control much of anything. He didn't want anything to happen to Brooklyn. She was weak and fragile and there was still much that she did not know.
He cursed himself for not being able to detect if they were in another's pack territory or not. It must have been so far out, closer to the edge of Alpha Damien's territory, for no one to pick up on it.
And then he went to think about the other Alpha. He disliked him already. The way he had said Brooklyn was his caused anger and possession to burn inside of him. She didn't belong to him. Gail was the one that was there for her throughout all the troubles she had. He was the one there during the hard times after she woke up from her coma. He was always there, always protecting her. Even though he did keep her in the dark. But it was for her own good. She was still recovering after these few years, and he didn't want to give her too much that she couldn't handle it.
He had tried though, to figure out the pack she had previously been in before going rogue and ending up in his territory. But it was hard with no lead and her memory gone.
Two men seemed to be thinking of Brooklyn at that time. Alpha Damien couldn't get her out of his mind. More like the image of her near white eyes. How was she blind? It just did not make any sense. She was a werewolf, and while their healing process was much slower than a vampire's, it was much quicker than an average human's. What any incident would have left a human blind for the rest of their life, a werewolf would have been blind for a few days, a week at the most. So, maybe she just had an accident a few days ago? But then there were the scars. Even though it was a possibility, it was hard to think of it as just a coincidence. And those scars had looked older than a few days.
He still couldn't believe it. After all of these years, the feeling of guilt and sadness that had settled on his shoulders, and she was still alive. At this, he noticed how quiet it was in the SUV. Every one of his men seemed to be shocked. Brooklyn, the girl that they all believed dead, and too felt guilty about, was still alive. And to top it off, she was their Alpha's mate.
Damien was still having a hard time believing it himself. He remembered just looking at her picture this morning, with her long dark hair and crystal blue eyes. He felt as if he was in a state of shock, although his wolf was still going crazy inside of him. He didn't like not having his mate with him, where they should be in his car now and heading back to his house to complete the Mating. But instead she was in the vehicle behind them, and they were headed to the pack house to discuss how they would handle the situation.
Before they had left the diner, Damien had called on his other pack members and briefly told them what was going on. He didn't mention his mate, just that there were trespassers and they were headed on their way back to the pack house. He gave instructions to the men that were patrolling in the woods closest to them to surround and follow the Envoy with the trespassers. It didn't take long for Damien to sense his men surrounding their car from the safety of the trees.
Damien couldn't help but constantly look back in the mirror at the car containing his mate. He couldn't help but wonder what she doing and what Alpha Gail was telling her. But if Damien knew one thing, it was that his mate was staying with him.
"Gail?" Brooklyn said softly, as if she was scared to.
Gail sighed despite himself. His brain was in overload and he wasn't able to get his thoughts straight. "What?"
"Nothing." Brooklyn said quickly and leaned back in her seat, taking her hands off of the headrest in front of her. She felt bad and figured that Gail was mad at her. He had never replied back to her when he told her not to worry about him, and he hadn't tried to say anything to her the whole time they were on their way to, well wherever they were going. Gail never said where but she felt as if everyone else knew. Which left her feeling left out, as always.
