Brooklyn felt tired. She knew she was laying down, and she had just woken up but she was still tired. She didn't open her eyes, just snuggled deeper into the soft pillow that was under her head.

What finally got her to sit up was a rustling sound beside her.

"Who's there?" She nervously said.

"Its just me." She heard a deep voice whisper.

"Alpha Damien?"

"Don't call me that." He growled.

"Sorry." She whispered.

She felt a warm, rough hand caress the side of her face and tensed. Nobody but Gail had touched her like that, but it wasn't unpleasant. In fact, it was very nice. His hand was warm and she felt comfort in his touch.

"You don't have anything to be sorry about." She felt his breath fan her face and flinched back, taken off guard.

His hand was gone just as soon, and she couldn't feel him close to her anymore. She felt a little depressed by that, but could not figure out why.

'Because he's your mate.' A voice said in her mind.

That reminded her, she had questions.

"Damien?" She whispered. "Can I ask you something?"

"Look," He started. "I know you have a lot of questions. Or at least you should. I'll tell you whatever you need but, not right now. I think it would be better if we waited until a little later. I think I already know mostly what you're going to ask, and you're not going to like the answers. And I don't exactly want to tell you either. So lets go downstairs and get something to eat, so we can both prepare ourselves."

What he said shocked Brooklyn into silence. She didn't know what to make of it. She couldn't wrap her mind around the fact that he was being so brutality honest. Everyone else had always sugarcoated everything and watched their step with her. But she did not know whether she should be relieved or frightened with his honesty.

"Come on." He said and gently grabbed her upper arm.

She slowly lowered her feet to the ground and stood up. He didn't release his hold on her, seeming to only tighten it. She knew they were close, she could feel the heat radiating from his body. They started to walk out when Brooklyn suddenly froze, making them both stop.

"My glasses!" She said as horror filled her. She had been speaking to him this whole time without her glasses on!

She felt him release his hold on her arm and moved away. She felt her heart drop for a minute, thinking that he had just realized she wasn't wearing her glasses and was horrified as well. Now he saw how horribly weird she looked and could see the ragged scares closely.

She heard him walk back to her and he whispered, "Here. Sorry, I didn't even think about it. I didn't notice."

She shakily put her glasses on and Damien could see for the first time how truly insecure and fragile she was.

"Hey," He whispered and stepped closer to her. He put his hand on the side of her face, running his finger over her cheek. "Its okay. There's no reason for you to be scared." It took everything in him to not crash his lips to hers and devour her.

She didn't say anything and kept her head looking straight. Her eyebrows were furrowed and she was chewing on her bottom lip. She heard Damien growl and his free hand went around her waist, pulling her completely against him. She felt his head go to her neck, and he took a huge breath in. She tensed in his arms at his sudden movement but he didn't seem to notice. He stayed in that position for a few moments and she noticed how much he was shaking. His grip on her never loosened.
