Oh wow, it's been a week since I've written in this. I think it's been a week... Oh yah, it has. I (somehow) finished my first Chemistry test without anything bad happening, like explosions on the way or cute squirrels blocking my path to the lecture hall. And with that, we were dismissed. And I had no class. It felt awesome.

I leisurely walked towards the food court and settled down into one of the lines for food. I chose at random, just because, and ended up with Panda Express. False Chinese food, I suppose, but much better than the stuff the dorm dining hall serves. After I paid, I took my box outside of the food court and out to a bench under some shade. But as I ate, I was bothered with all the people passing by my feet just a few inches away, so moved to a grassy area under a tree. Shade and quiet. The perfect combination.

When I finally resettled in and started to eat my food again, there was a rustle and I turned to the right a little, mid-bite, and almost dropped my food, plate and all. There was someone stretched out under the shade of my tree. Well, it was my tree for the time being. I totally did not realize that someone was there, maybe because of the deep shadows of the leaves. And it turned out to be the dude with sandy bangs in his eyes. I apologized for stealing his shade and was about to hastily pack up, but he simply said he didn't mind, so I stayed put. A bit awkwardly, but I still managed to finish my food.

As I got up to leave, he said "Here" and tossed something at me. I nearly dropped it, but I caught it. When I opened my palm, I saw that it was a small and smooth, round and flat, greenish grey pebble. The size of a quarter. I stumbled for words, but with a single "You can keep it", he turned around and was asleep again.

And now, here I am, writing, with the pebble on the desk in front of me. It didn't look pretty when I first saw it, but now, under the desk lamp, it looks a bit pretty. A dull beauty. Maybe I should name it (lol). I told Liz about this odd gift and she laughed and said he was weird. Then again, aren't we all weird. We both laughed. Maybe I'll carry it around as a charm. For what, I don't know.

Signing off,

Naomi
