"Alright room assignments." Rick says turning to the group with the list in hand." Ok, 45 and 73, room one."
The two girls walk over to the room giggling over a joke.
"56 and 72, room two."
"47 and 67, room three." As Rick calls out our current survivability ratings, I wonder who I'm going to get paired with.
"52 and 87, room four." As I walk over I see Robbie walk over as well. He gives me an evil grin as we enter our room. Inside the room I notice how small the room actually is. Two hammocks hang from the wall with two desks/dressers sitting right beside. A central bar light provides light to the faded forest green walls. On the other side there is one door leading to a basic bathroom."Any preference on side?" I ask.
" A little, I'll take the the left side Davinci." He says.
I smile as we set our stuff down on the hammocks, Davinci, I haven't been called that in years. As I place the two pistols on the desk, I see Robbie looking down the scope of his rifle. " Hey Davinci, remember the first match?" He asks as he whips around rifle pointed at my chest. I dive into the hammock grabbing one of the pistols. We evilly grin at each other, lowering our weapons.
"So, any channel you prefer."Robbie says surprisingly as he pushes a button on the wall and a flat screen t.v folds out of the ceiling.
"Not really. I do like..."
" ALL hands prepare for liftoff of The Arkemite research shuttle." The loudspeaker above us says.
Then our window opens to see a massive SSTO(single stage to orbit) craft taxi onto the runway. With its smooth delta wings, and knife edge front, the craft test fires all its engines. Even from 1/2 a mile away the details that I can see on the craft is crystal clear.
Then came the roaring, as the rocket motors came to life before quickly going out. The came the four ramjet engines. They spooled up and in the background I hear that all systems are a green.
The shuttle then rapidly shrinks to the size of my hand when I finally realize we have be staring at a projection on the wall. The entire screen is then fills with red as all the engines fire up for takeoff. The walls then decide to try and shake themselves down as the roar of the engines finally reach our building. I look over to Robbie to see he has his rifle in hand standing near the doorway. He sees me look over and half grins, " You can take the soldier out of war but you can't take the war out of the soldier..." He says trailing off into a chuckle as he slowly puts down his gun.
I smile and retort, " At least the safety is on or you probably would have shot me..." I chuckle back as I see him relaxing back to normal.
Looking back to the screen, I see that the shuttle has left a plume of smoke in its wake. As the shuttle disappears with the distance, the screen fades away. No longer in the mood for t.v, Robbie retracts the television and goes to lay down. I smile at my thoughts, wondering if I should say "night Robbie, don't let the terrorists get you." Looking over I see get is already dead asleep, so I go over and turn off the light and find my way back to the hammock.
While laying there waiting for sleep to steal me away, I look back at my day so far. I've held a gun, shot a gun, been shot at, run 1 mile in less than 7 minutes, about taken out by a wing, free fell in a limo, forced through a crowd like a battering ram, watched a shuttle take off in front of me and had lucky charms this morning. If this is the life I'm going to live here it can't be all that bad. Well maybe the exercising part, but I will look better at least.
.......
DomI still can't believe that Vanessa agreed with Blake to put those weapons in. Though Dom, who about said that out loud. What would we achieve if one of those crewmembers couldn't handle it and took out the aliens. I mean all there files were clean and all had high mental stability.
"Mr. Smith, you seem deep in though, and are having trouble deciding. May I been of assistance in this manner?" The robot butler announces next to me. Robot, Enigma experiment, also known as Rex.
"Nah sorry Rex, this is a little above your clearance." I say wondering if maybe sending the robot might have been a better idea. Shaking my head, I remind myself that this robot has only been active for 2 days. The last exploded after being asked a paradoxical question while in the alpha stage.
Arriving at the CEO's door, Rex gives me a weird look as my fake smile magically reappears. Ok give a polite knock, when suddenly Rex jumps at the window at it shatters. The sound of metal hitting metal resonates as it all goes silent, then three Scrabs roll down the hallway. On rolling up to me and scanning me to see if I'm ok. The other to expand and poke at the hole now in Rex's chest area. The one completely on top of him turns all red. The Scrab scanning me also turns red and immediately drags me in to the CEO's office. I see Vanessa and her father, Charles, glance over at me then back to the screen with Blake yelling at his underlings.
"BLAKE," Charles loudly say with his voice so full of authority even Vanessa flinches, "After this situation is sorted out, meet me in my privet office in 2 hours."
I see the hologram Blake snaps to attention, " yes sir! It will be handled quickly." He fades out as Charles walks over to me.
"Are you green?" He asks as his hand goes out to help me up. Taking it, I notice a sharp pain in my leg and see a small glass shard sticking out.
"My condition is yellow, sir." I say as I stand all the way up and salute.
Looking over to the Scrab "Bot," he states, as one of the robot rolls over and flashes green," take this man and the other bots to the med lab." As he finishes my good leg is hit causing me to fall backwards into the bots which easily break my fall.
I notice a pain in my side as the world goes fuzzy and black
