( The picture is of Arkenite, their race is similar to that of Dragon-born from D&D)
"Director, Planet Alpha 35-3 is being partially blocked by it's moon right now," One of my officers tells me.
Such an odd planet. Our sensors were finally able to get a topographical map of the planet. It seems to be a colony that never was able to leave. Only another Arc away and we can get a full scan of the planet. But for now, the unmanned probe will be launched, giving us a better understanding of the threat that looms before us.
"Captain Oreihn, launch the probe." I state into my hands-free set, sending the go ahead to the captain.
The bridge crew watches the invis-steel as the cruiser pulls up beside us. Opening it's torpedo tubes for the first time in many cycles, a puff of blue flames followed by a white fog indicate the sleek, black probe is on its way. We watch as it passes the two Atmo-Droppers, when all the sudden the one on the right blows out a main engine. It lazily does a back flip as I yell, "someone patch me to the captain!"
"Captain Marien, what happened?!" I shout over as I hear then bridge alarms going off.
"Director, the one of the primary engine arrays blew it's reactor seal. The reactor is in emergency shutdown protocol." On the holowall, I see He has that 'but that's not all' look on his face. Quickly I send a message to the other craft to get out the Panther's exhaust trail.
"In the blast it looks like the backup was taken out as well. We will be sitting dark in 40 mics."I patch myself out of the conversation and into the hanger, " Lieutenant Aies what is the progress of those Atmo docks!"
Then his face shows up. For a Alemant, he wasn't the nicest to look at his overlapping scales on the right side of his elongated face were sunk in, a plasma blast he says. With his face half deformed, the worst part for him was The shot missed his acting brain but his eyes was completely burnt out of the socket. As Alemants, we can share though telepathically, where as we can share full story by starring into each others eyes, full emotions and feelings are transferred in this method. So by missing an eye you can only get a jumbled mix of feelings and images.
"Sir the dock is ready to be connected shortly, what happened." His face shows concern.
I display the video of the Panthers engine going out on his screen.
"Oh my..." Is all he says.
" their backup is knocked out during the explosion and they have 40 mics before complete blackout." The grimness in my voice couldn't be clearer.
" Well Arken, I can tell you it won't be ready and fully attached but enough to get the power situation fixed. Also the will need another ship to bring them in since they have no control." Seeing that thinking face, or what's left of it, means he no long is paying any attention to this conversation and working on the mounting dock now.
"Get it done, Aies."
If only we had the Battleship Marces with us, these Atmos would not be having this problem with its four hangers and two Atmo docks, the carrier and cargo ships could have been back at base with the two Atmos docked the entire way here. But alas as soon as we were to leave an attack on Andramata base in the Fluix sector pulled the Battleship for our fleet to support the standing militia navy.
Interrupting my thoughts, Geospatial officer Miranda yell across the loud bridge now bustling with activity from the Panthers engine going out.
"DIRECTOR, the suspected planet just had a bright flash go off on one of the land masses." She looks over her shoulder to she my reaction then continues, " it's unclear why with its moon blocking most of the planet from our sight, but one thing is for sure." The whole bridge went from a loud roar to murmers lighting quick in dread at her next sentence.
" There has to be life on this planet and they knew we were coming. They hide behind their moon in hopes to prep against us." Every nods in agreement as she continues, "Director, I suggest we abandoned mission, the enemy hide itself and slipped up in staying in cover. They," she point to the small blue green planet in the far off distance," are waiting to kill us." At this point I motion for security to remove her. Seeing the security she yells one last remark before they ice her on the spot, " you can't prevent the facts frommmm...."
Over the mic, I tell the guards to take her to the hanger, where we shall chat. Everyone looks to me as they await my reaction. I t.m(telepathically message) the comms officer to patch me to all ships.
"Captains and crews of the exploratory fleet Delta, let it be know that we are being watch by aliens. Our mission has turned from discovery to war. We shall engage all that fire upon us" I stop to let the crews finish the space wartime anthem
"TILL THE BLACK OF THE DARK ZONE CONSUMES, WE FIGHT FOR THE SPACE AND ITS LIFE IT HOLDS. HOORAH" THE crews chanting filling the deck with pride, they have been waiting awhile for this, a voice pops in my head. I think back, I just hope this news goes to their head.
