Dear Phil,
It's been a week and 3 days since the accident. I'd love to tell you that I'm ok, but I'm really not. I took up therapy. The guy is kind of weird. I don't like him too much, but I guess I'll have to get used to it.
I hope you know I miss you. I miss you so much.
I miss you're bright eyes and cute little smile.
I miss how you cover you're mouth when you're scared and how you stick you're tongue out when you laugh.
I miss the way you would cuddle with me when it was dark.
I miss how I would hold you when their was a thunderstorm. And you would whimper every time the place shook and I would hug you tight and close until you fell asleep.
I miss you're tiny, quiet snores and how they weren't very frequent.
I miss you're kisses and hugs.
I miss you're morning voice.
I miss catching you eating my cereal.
I miss you're optimism. I hope you know it always made me feel better. Even though I would usually tease you or act annoyed.
I even miss our arguments. I miss our makeups.
I hope you know how much I love you Phil.
I hope you know how much I miss you.
Please come home soon.
Love, Dan
Dan read and re-read his letter over and over again. He hoped he didn't sound too needy but he didn't really care at this point.
For a week, Dan had steered clear of the hospital. He couldn't see Phil like that again. He couldn't bare it.
But now he felt guilty for not seeing Phil. He took a cab there and trudged to Phil's room, trying to prepare himself for the sight he was about to witness.
He had held back the tears for 4 days now, but the second the door swung open and he saw Phil, he couldn't hold them back any longer.
He nearly fell in a fit of tears right there, but he forced himself to walk over to Phil and sit down next to him. He grabbed his hand and it was cold as ice. He desperately tried to warm him with his own body heat, but it did next to nothing.
His heart was slow and steady.
But Dan's heart was nearly beating out of his chest. It was rapid and all over the place.
Dan didn't want- no he couldn't believe that Phil might never wake up. He couldn't imagine his life without Phil.
So for now, all Dan could do was wait.
And wait.
And wait.
After what seemed like hours, but was probably only 45 minutes, of Dan holding Phil's hand and pleading for him to wake up and for all of this to be over, Phil's breath hitched.
Dan stood up quickly and nearly screamed for the doctor.
He rushed in, "What is it? What's happened?"
"His b-breathing!" He stuttered as he tripped over his words. "It s-stopped for a second! And look!" Dan yelled at his new discovery, "His eyes are open! Phil! PHIL!" Dan rushed to his side but Phil didn't move.
