Seizure

"I want you to be aware that he's still at risk of not making it," the doctor told Dan as they walked down the hall, back to Phil's room.

Dan nodded, "How so?"

"Well, for one thing, he could slip back into the coma. You see," she showed him a few scans. "We took X-rays and went through some procedures with him. His brain activity is a little funky and his heart rate is abnormal. It could give out at any second."

Dan opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted by a door abruptly swinging open. Phil's door.

"Seizure," the man said. Dan and the woman quickly reached inside.

Phil's limbs were twitching aggressively, his head banging on the pillow. The nurse rolled him onto his left side where Phil then vomited.

"That's another possibility," the lady muttered.

"Make him stop!" Dan said worriedly.

"We can't. We have to wait it out." The nurse placed a hand on Dan's shoulder. "And we have to stay calm," he told him.

The movements began to get slower. He was muttering under his breath; words that made no sense. And then his eyes closed and he stilled.

"He's breathing fine," the nurse told Dan. "Just unconscious."

The doctor saw the look on Dan's face and she quickly added, "Don't worry. He'll be fine."

The nurse cleaned the throw up quickly and then moved him onto his back. He took Phil's right arm, putting it at a right angle, palm facing upwards. He dragged Phil's left arm over his body and put the back of Phil's hand on Phil's cheek, holding it there. He took Phil's left knee, bending his leg up so his foot was flat on the mattress, then pulled so Phil rolled to his other side.

"When he wakes up," the male doctor said, "stay with him and reassure him. He doesn't seem to have any injuries but call a nurse in to check him up. With the button. I don't want you to leave his side but he needs privacy from anyone else until he comes to."

Dan nodded, kneeling next to Phil.

"Oh and Dan," the doctor said. "Watch his breathing."

They left, walking quickly in different directions. Dan's eyes roamed Phil nervously. Dan paced, glancing at Phil every five seconds. After 10 minutes, his eyes opened.

"Thank goodness," Dan sat next to Phil again.

Phil stared blankly, blinking. He didn't talk until Dan had helped him into a sitting position.

"I feel funny," Phil said, almost miserably. He kept his head down.

"Do you need me to-" Dan was going to ask about adjusting the pillows to support his head but Phil cut him off.

"Er- Dan.. I think I might've..."

"What?" Dan questioned.

"Can you check... under the covers?" Phil squeezed his eyes shut.

"Oh Phil, did you-"

Yep. There was a puddle right under him.

"Oh Phil," Dan frowned and pressed the button for the nurse. "It's alright. Everything's alright," Dan said when he saw Phil shake.

A nurse came in, clearly used to this situation. She told Dan to help Phil into the chair. She took the sheets and replaced them, handing Phil a new gown.

"You can get changed and clean up in there," she said gently and gave Dan a damp cloth and a dry towel.

"Thank you," Dan called, shutting the door.

"I'm sor-"

"It's not your fault, Phil."

"How did-"

"You had a seizure."

Phil looked at Dan with wide eyes.

"It's ok. You're fine."

Dan knew Phil couldn't walk. It'd only been a day with the physical therapist. He'd be surprised if Phil could even close his fingers to a fist yet.

So instead, he shut the door and made sure no one would walk in on them. Dan took the gown off of Phil, carefully cleaning him up.

Phil's face burned red as he watched Dan. "This is so degrading," he mumbled.

Dan chuckled a bit, slipping the fresh gown over Phil's now-dried body. He picked Phil up and laid him back down in the bed.

"Hey Dan?"

"Ya?"

"There's something else I need."

"What is it?"

"Can you push me over a bit?"

Dan did what Phil said.

"Now, pull back the covers again."

Dan did.

"Good. Now lay down with me."

"Phil-"

"Please, Dan. Just- please."

Dan smiled at Phil, somewhat sadly and complied. He took Phil's arm and put it around his waist -the way they used to- and snuggled into his chest.

"Also.. give me a kiss."

Dan laughed and leaned up. "Anything else?"

"Ya... I love you."

"I love you too."

And they laid like that for a long time.
