- Chapter 86 -

I made my way back up the Sheriff's quarters finding it extremely quiet which made me raise an eyebrow as I knocked and was granted access to find Isabella sitting smugly behind her desk watching a couple of guards unpack trunks of treasure in her room with Meg standing proudly beside her. I saw that Thornton was no where to be seen as Isabella made no attempt to acknowledge my presence.

"I want some guards behind me, and I want the rest of them hidden. Understood?" Isabella ordered as the guard nodded causing her to smirk as I watched Isabella picks up a sheet of parchment and gives it to the guard and they left with their instructions.

Noticing at the table was the set of dungeon keys, mainly the key that was to Guy's cell as I easily made my way over to the table and leant against it. Slipping the keys quietly under my cloak I looked over to Isabella as she began to write on some parchment smirking.

"Sire, I write to you with a grave confession that I hope you will find in your heart to forgive. By way of an apology, I would like to offer you... a gift..." She began to narrate what she wrote as I slipped out from the room and dashed down the dungeons. Nodding to passing guards I slip the keys out from behind my cloak and grab hold of the one, which I wanted for Guy's cell. Guy glanced at me and took a double take as he leapt to his feet as I began to unlock his door and start on his shackles.

"What are you doing?" He asked me confused.

"We don't have much time. I have to get you out of here" I warned as he rubbed his wrists.

"Thank you" He whispered as I felt my body melt to his voice even though I knew he couldn't see my face as we began to make our way out the stairs to see Isabella and a troop of men waiting at the top for us. Growling I draw my sword as I heard footsteps behind us as I turned to see a small troop behind us as well.

"Well, this is touching." Isabella chuckled as I felt my sword ripped from my hands and chains shackled behind my back.

"Take him back to his cell" She ordered as Guy was dragged away from my sight. I was dragged after her as I was thrown to my knees in the main hall as my hood was suddenly yanked back and letting my braid flow over my shoulders. Isabella glared at me before yanking away my mask away from my face as I scrunched my nose slightly, feeling odd without the familiar mask on my face. Isabella was shocked to see I was a woman but the gasps from the soldier's is what caught her attention as she eyed them and pointed at one to come forward.

"Who is she?" She questioned as I raised an eyebrow at her with a deep smirk.

"Lady Esme Sheriff. She....she's uhh your brother's betrothed" He gulped as that caught her attention as she turned to me and held my chin up at her. I easily spat in her face causing her to let me go as she snarled down at me.

"Did my brother buy you from your father? Or did you truly accept his proposal" She snickered down at me.

"I owe you nothing." I spoke my soft natural voice returning back. It gave my throat a bit of relief to know I wouldn't have to pretend anymore as my answer made her furious. But yet my defensive nature to protect her brother seemed to answer enough for it's self.

"I knew there was something wrong about you. You cared about my brother's safety fair too much. No I wonder why you would pretend to be someone else?" She muttered to herself as I stared at her blankly refusing to give anything away.

"Uhh....excuse me Sheriff" The soldier coughed as she rolled her eyes and looked at him with a raised eyebrow and bored expression. Waiting for him to continue.
