My life flipped (Book 1)

A little surprise

     As usually I looked out the window while my aunt was driving. I was surprised when she stopped in front of the house, so I asked, "What are you doing?" Megan laughed and said, "I am dropping you off. I have a few errands to run. I will be back later." I laughed a little, as I jumped out of the jeep. I walked up to the house and opened the door. I didn't have any homework that day, but I would have it tomorrow. I grabbed a granola bar from the cabinet and then upstairs to my room. I just dropped my backpack on the ground and flipped on my laptop, sitting down. I heard a little sound that sounded like a kitten or something, it was like a "Mew,mew" sound. I shook my head, knowing that my aunt didn't have a cat, let alone a kitten.

     Once my computer was up a running I scanned through my e-mails, only replying to the ones that meant something. I still could hear the mew, mew sound! It wasn't far away either. I shut off my laptop and flipped around in my chair, to find a little gray and black blob on my bed. Though it wasn't a blob, but a kitten! I squealed, flying out of my chair to go pet it. I put my hand to my mouth, as I felt how soft it was. I careful picked it up, figuring out that it is a girl. I cradled her to my chest and finally I saw the note:

Dear Katerina,

This kitten is a present from me. It is me welcoming you into my home and also your mom mentioned you loved cats. It is a female, but a mutt (that does not mean it is bad, it means it is different kinds of cat inside of it I guess.) You may name it what you please, I hope you enjoy having it around, it is your cat.

     I ran my fingers through my hair and smiled broadly to myself. I looked at the little kitten, which was lying, asleep on my bed, and decided to name it Ashlee. I nuzzled my face into her fur and smiled. "Ashlee, do you like that name?" Ashlee lifted her head, as if to say yes, then put it back down to sleep. All of a sudden I heard the doorbell ring and I ran down the stairs to answer it. Standing in the doorway was Elena and I smiled at her. "Hey," she said, shyly. "Hey Elena, what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?" She laughed and said, "I was wondering if you wanted to hang out?"

     "Can we hang out here? My aunt has gone to do some errands and I don't know all her rules yet," I asked. Elena shrugged and said, "Sure why not?" I smiled, beckoning her in. we made our way upstairs so I could show her Ashlee. Once we were in my room Elena squealed like I did and said, "Aww, she is so cute!" I smiled and said, "Her name is Ashlee, spelled A-S-H-L-E-E." Elena nodded, "Very unique, for a very pretty kitten." I smiled and replied, "Yep, she is my new home present, I guess." 'Awesome!" Elena exclamied. "Yep," I smiled.

     Once Elena left, Megan came home, carrying a bag of cat food, a thing of litter, a littler box, and a bag of what probably more cat stuff. I helped her take the stuff inside and then I hugged her to bits. "You're welcome sweetie," she said to me, with a big smile. Until Ashlee got bigger she was going to stay in my room, so i set up an area for her, which included her food, a small cat bed, litter box, and a few fun cat toys. I picked up Ashlee and set her on her bed, before I went down to dinner.

     As we were eating, Megan asked, "So school was great. Did you make any friends?" I nodded and said, "Elena, Grace, and Alicia." She nodded and replied, "Elena Taylor, Grace Scott, and Alicia Travis, I know their parents, I like them very nice people." I smiled and said, "I also made three enemies! Jen, Amanda, and Christen." Megan raised her eyebrows as she said, "Be careful around them. Their moms are very competitive and I believe their daughters are the same way. Very high class, for fifth grade." I laughed, "I've delt with ten times worse, but I will be careful around them."

     She nodded. After dinner I helped her clean the dishes. She offered to let me watch tv, but I wasn't in the mood. I went upstairs to my room instead, and watched Ashlee eat, then watched as she went back to bed, and after that I fell asleep.

I woke up to a grey light hitting my face. It was a downpour outside and I was half on and half off my bed. I felt a little tongue on the tip of my nose and I looked to see Ashlee licking my nose. I giggled and carefully went onto the floor with her. I could hear her purring and I smiled. I picked her up, rolling onto my back, so I could look up at her. She had blue eyes, that look so small and fragile. I rubbed my nose with Ashlee's before setting her down on her bed and getting up.

     I got dressed and brushed my hair out. It was a little later than I realized so i went running downstairs. My aunt raised her eyebrows and said, "Running a little later today I see." I shrugged and took the piece of toast she was offering to me and went upstairs to grab my boots and backpack. I had finished the toast by the time I got downstairs. I ran to the bathroom to brush my teeth and then got my boots on in there too. I ran back out and my aunt was already heading to the garage and I followed her.

     I made it to my class room, one second before the tardy bell rang. I was out of breath, but I made it to my seat, before collapsing. "Nice of you to join us, Katerina," said the teacher (still couldn't remember her name). I closed my eyes and felt a blush spread across my face. "Sorry," I said. I was happy that the teacher started up without further questioning, "OK class today is a big day. Since there is three weeks until school gets out, you will be doing a project with a 7th grader. You do this project in 5thgrade with seventh graders and in sixth with 8th. I know sounds odd but that is just how it is.

    "What you will do is pick a 7th grader's name out of a hate and that will be your partner. Once you have found your partner you will pick a project out of a hat as well. If you end up picking a sibling and you don't want to work with him or her, you may come up to a teacher and we will try to give you a new one, agreeded?" Everyone responded with, "Agreed." She nodded and picked up a hate that looked like a magicians hat. She started holding out the hat to everyone, there was some groans and some yeepees!  When it came to me, I held my breath as I pulled out the little paper. I let it out when I saw who it was Olivia Knight.I almost jumped out of my seat, Olivia Knight, Ej's sister!

    Once everyone had picked their person our teacher said, "Okay, now that everyone has a person, they are outside on the playground, wearing name tags, so you can find them." Everyone was in a frenzy to get outside of the class room. I was the last one out, but not the last one to find my partner. Everyone was going around saying, "Are you my partner." They weren't saying that exactly but saying the person's name, but who cares. When I found Olivia, I was almost stunned. Olivia had long blond hair that fell down her back in curls and she a light green eyes. She was just plain beautiful.

     I went up to her and asked, "Are you Olivia Knight?" She smiled, showing white and almost perfectly straight teeth. "I am," she said, in a light voice. "Who are you?" I laughed at my own stupidity and said, "I am Katerina Tyler." She laughed a little, "I get the new girl, I see. Well nice to meet you Katerina. Shall we go pick out our project?" I nodded and followed her over to where the teachers were standing. Olivia picked out a piece of paper and read it out loud to me, "Build a replica of the Eiffel Tower and then write and two page report on its history."

     "Doesn't sound too hard," I said. She shook her head and said, "It won't be, trust me. We can do it at my house, this Saturday?" I nodded and said, "Can I have your address?" She nodded, writing it down on a piece of paper then handing it to me. The 7th graders had to leave and just like that I had a way of maybe meeting EJ more offically and if not at least I get to see his home.
