I woke up early the next morning. There was a little drizzling outside as I headed downstairs to the small half bathroom down there. I had left my brush and toothbrush and paste down there the previous night. I brushed out my hair and started decided on how to style it. After going through, pigtails, braids, one braid, a ponytail, side ponytail, etc. I decided to just put my hair half up and half down. After I was finished with that I went upstairs to get dressed. I pulled out a pair of light skinny jean and a light blue, long sleeved, v-neck, t-shirt. I also found a cardigan thingy that went good with the shirt.
When I came back downstairs I found aunt Megan awake and making breakfast. "Ready for your first day at a new school, Kat?" she asked, as I sat down. I smiled and nodded, "I just hope they like me." She laughed at that, "They certainly should, you may be new to the town, but I've been kind of spreading the word around town that you are a great kid." I laughed, shaking my head a little, and said, "Now people will think of me as an auntie's girl, not some masked strange new girl." She just shook her head and set a plate of pancakes, eggs , and bacon in front of me. I scarfed the breakfast down and excused myself to go brush my teeth. After I had brushed my teeth and made sure I had everything in my backpack, I went downstairs.
"Where's your shoes, Katerina?" Megan (as I am gonna call her now) asked when I was on the last step. "Oh," I hit myself on the head, then sprinted up the stairs to grab my new waterproof boots. I had forgotten that they had a small heel on them and got caught on something and fell. I almost busted out laughing as I got up and headed down the stairs to show Megan that I had boots now. "What was that thud I heard?" I waved my hand in front of my face, as if I were swatting a fly and said, "Oh, nothing you need to worry about, everything is all right."
"You sure?"
"Oh, of course I am sure."
Megan gave me a weird look and then we headed to her garage. I got into the car and as we started driving stared out of the window again. "What do you look at out there, Kat? I always see you staring out that window," said Megan tilting her head at me. "I don't know, I just like to look outside. This is a wondrous place, I've never realized that before," I answered. She nodded, as we arrived at the school. It wasn't huge, but it didn't really matter to me. I jumped out of the car, it wasn't drizzling anymore and I could see the sun trying so hard to get through the clouds. We walked up to the secretary, whom was smiling at us. "Ah, you must me Katerina Tyler. Your aunt has told us so much about you. So you will be ending fifth grade here and starting sixth here as well?" "I believe so," I said, feeling slightly awkward.
The secretary leaned over her desk and said, "Don't worry, all the kids at this school are very friendly. You shouldn't have trouble making friends." I nodded and gave her a convincing smile. Megan led me down to the fifth grade class room. I could see kids inside there, though I knew class hadn't started yet, I was equally as frightened to go in there. I turned to my aunt and said, "I will go in there alone, I don't need my auntie watching out for me." She laughed and nodded. After I gave her a quick kiss on the cheek I headed into the class room.
As I expected, everyone turned to look at me when I walked in. I wanted to run out that door and all the way back to LA that moment. Sadly the teacher, which was a woman put a damper on that plan because she said, "Ah students this are new girl, all the way from Los Angeles, California, Katerina Tyler." I smiled the best I could and said weakly, "Hello everyone, it is an honor for me to be here." The teacher smiled as she led me to a desk, in the middle of the class room next to a boy with curly dark hair. As I sat down, the teacher turned to the curly haired boy and said, "EJ, can you please help Katerina if she ever needs it?" EJ nodded, his hair bouncing as he did.
I stretched my arms out and heard them crack as I did. I looked around quickly hoping that it wasn't as loud as I imagined it was. Only EJ seemed to hear it, because he was looking at me, with dark green eyes that made me a little frightened. I turned my attention to the teacher and every so often I would look over and see EJ staring at me with those green eyes. I was relived when class was excused for recess.
Once I got outside three blond haired girls came up to me and the tallest of the three said, "Hi, I'm Jen and this is, " she gestured to the middle one, "Amanda and also," she was talking about the shortest of the three, "Christen." I smiled at them and said, "Hi, Jen, Amanda, and Christen." Jen had a smile on her face that said: you are my prey and I am going to kill you."So, the teacher put you in the desk next to EJ. That is the desk any girl would die for," said Christen sweetly. "Really?" I asked. I mean he wasn't bad looking it is just I never really thought of him as every girls dream.
"Yes really," replied Amanda, "EJ Knight is a catch he is like the hottest guy in fifth grade." Jen was smiling, as she said, "Katerina, you are new here, so I wanted to let you know, STAY AWAY FROM EJ. He is mine." I tilted my head back, but resisted the urge to groan. Another girl that thinks I am going to take a likely boyfriend from her. "I won't intentionally try to have him," I replied. I couldn't help it if he like me, right? I looked across the playground to see EJ standing with a couple other boys in a far corner and again he was staring straight at me.
"Look away from him, missy," said Jen. I snapped my head away and said, "I am sorry." Christen was the one to speak, "You'd better be, just remember stay away from EJ." I nodded, watching them walk away. A girl with short black straight hair came up to me and said, "Stay away from them, they aren't sisters, but they are always together. They will eat you alive, if you are not careful. Oh and by the way, I'm Elena." I smiled at Elena and said, "I can tell what you mean, but I've dealt with ten times worse than her at my old school. Try dealing with girls who act like deva actresses." Elena nodded and said, "Want to sit together at lunch?" I smiled and replied, "Meet ya there."
The bell rang and just like that I had a new friend.
At lunch I sat with Elena and a couple other girls named Alicia and Grace. We chatted for awhile and they wanted to know all about what is like to live in a big city like LA. I told them it was fun and crazy. Also could be interesting at times. "Ok, what is it with Jen and EJ?" Alicia was the one who answered, "Jen has been after EJ since like first grade. When ever she tries to ask him out he always declines." I nodded and asked, "Does he have any siblings?" Grace nodded and said, "Two brothers and two sisters." Elena spoke next, "He has a brother named Chase who is in middle school and a sister named Olivia there to. In fourth grade he has a brother named Anthony and a sister named Kristy."
I nodded, "So he is the middle child?" Grace shook her head, suppressing a laugh, "He got held back, he is actually the oldest." I put my hand to my mouth and said, "Oh poor EJ." Alicia shrugged and said, "He doesn't seem to mind so I wouldn't bother with it." I looked over my shoulder to a table in the back of the cafeteria, to where EJ, probably his brother, sister, and a friend maybe sat. I looked back almost too quickly, I hurt my neck a little.
After lunch, the day seemed to go by a little too fast and suddenly I was outside in the rain, waiting for my aunt to pick me up. When I got in the car the first thing Megan said, "How was school?"
"Great," I said. I knew that I had made a few new friends and maybe even met my dream boy. Forks was turning out to be a pretty good place after all.
